Yelena laughed.

“Fine,” Nat said. “Did you know they usually play a magic drinking game at these parties? Anyone who loses has to strip. All the dudes like to see girls loosening their bras and losing their panties.”

“What?” I shrieked. “So they’ll get to see all the women naked for free tonight?”

I was definitely not okay with the demigods ogling other women. I’d put a stop to this show when I saw them and gave them a piece of my mind.

“The demigods never participate in the stripping game. It’s beneath them—or so they say,” Nat said. “From what I’ve heard, they’ve never thrown a party, either. They don’t entertain anyone. They didn’t stay at the Academy either, before you came along. I bet Demigod Axel is throwing this party for you. He might be actually courting you.”

Two Dominions positioned at the entrance nodded at me, and one of them opened the door for us. They didn’t need to see our invitations. At this point they all knew my face.

Yelena glided in, and I mimicked her since I was also wearing a dress, but the stilettos didn’t make it easy for me. Nat strode beside Yelena. He didn’t need to glide since he was a dude, even though he was into dudes.

Music blasted into our faces and bombarded our ears.

The ground floor was packed. Most of the faces were unfamiliar to me. The students, mostly fourth-years, milled around with glasses of champagne or wine in their hands, chatting and laughing.

We prowled through the crowd, passed the benches and bar section, and followed the VIP sign that had an arrow pointing up the stairs.

“Looks like the ground is for everyone,” Nat yelled over the drumbeat of the live music. “The rooftop is for VIP guests. It makes sense.”

The top floor had a pool and a small garden, where Zak had taken me to feed from him through mating. Afterwards, he’d fought a pissed Axel.

I bet their minions had fixed the fractured pool in no time.

We hurried toward the foyer where the staircase was, and I spotted Marie and a few uniformed Dominion soldiers positioned at the foot of the marble stairs, checking invitations and turning away just about everyone.

“You aren’t on the VIP list!” she yelled at a few insistent partygoers. “Don’t even try,” she then hissed at a guy who’d tried to get his way by flirting with her. “You aren’t that cute.”

I chuckled. My attitude had kind of rubbed off on her.

The trio of us headed straight toward the stairs. Nat and Yelena looked a bit nervous and slowed their pace, evidently afraid of being thrown out by Marie and the Dominions.

I was more concerned with the endless swirling staircase. “Damn,” I whined. “We have to climb all those stairs?”

Demigods didn’t believe in elevators. Of course, they could all teleport, and it wasn’t in their nature to consider others’ comfort. And now I was paying the price since this warded building wouldn’t let me teleport to the top.

I wanted to bang my head against the wall for picking a pair of stilettos that had at least six-inch steel heels. But they looked so fancy, and I wanted to impress my demigods. They were putting a lot of effort into courting me. The least I could do in return was look pretty.

But risking my health with these shoes on those stairs?

“Guys, maybe we should just stay on this floor?” I suggested.

There were plenty of activities here. At some point, the demigods would come down, and I could join them then.

“No way, let’s go upstairs!” Yelena shouted back.

I gave her a look. The pip had never been demanding before.

“I want to be treated like a VIP for once in my life,” she said. “The opportunity has finally come, and I’m not going to waste it.”

“Fine, but let’s get some free booze first,” I said, pleased with my cleverness. “I’ll need blind courage to climb all those stairs.”

“The free booze in the VIP bar will be nicer,” Nat coaxed, backing up Yelena.

“Fine,” I said with a sigh.

I wondered if my taste buds could tell the difference, since I’d been raised on the rough streets and never had fine things in my life.
