The Dominion soldiers had almost arrived.

“See you around,Princess,” Loki said.

The prince gave me one last look with a dark grin that promised he’d get what he wanted. Then he stepped through the doorway.

The portal shimmered before closing behind him.

CHAPTER 18

––––––––

The Demigod of Seastared at me. I stared back, my face devoid of any expression.

Until now, I hadn’t noticed that he was badly wounded. Loki’s blood mingled with his own, soaking his shirt and coating his skin.

All I was thinking now was that, with his knowledge of my parentage, he was a bigger threat to me than Loki.

My declaration would sound ridiculous even to my own ears if I ever told him, “Hey, Pigston, did you hear what the demon prince said about me? He’s fucking nuts.”

How could this day get any worse for me? Of all people, my sworn enemy had to be the one who unveiled my hidden origin.

A menacing light flashed by my eyes.

I could eliminate the threat.

If I struck the sea demigod now, when he was most vulnerable, he wouldn’t stand a chance against me. I could use my combined hellfire and heavenly fire to liquefy him before anyone arrived at the scene. And I’d blame it all on Lucifer’s heir and the dark mages.

The “Living Flame” was still warm against my palms. It would answer to my summoning. It wouldn’t fail me.

And my dirty secret would be safe. I would stay with the rest of the demigods and prolong my happiness a little longer.

I locked eyes with Paxton, and his violet ones were vulnerable and open to me for the first time. He saw exactly what was on my mind. He saw murder in my eyes.

He wasn’t going to lift a finger to defend himself.

If I wasn’t mistaken, his expression declared that he deserved it and more.

I stepped toward him, my palms lifting. Columns of fire twirled around them, as tense as an iron whip, ready to strike.

Then shame poured down on me like a cold shower. At the same time, a hot, sharp pain impaled my gut at the idea of erasing my immortal enemy from the face of the Earth.

The old Marigold might be many things, but she was never a coldblooded murderer. She might have stabbed her enemies in the back, since she often dirty, but she couldn’t be a heartless bitch.
