“What are you trying to use me to get?” I try to shake the bag off my head with no luck. “Please, take this blasted thing off my head now that I know who you are.”

The sound of chair legs scraping on the rough floor breaks the silence. Footsteps and then the bag is gone. The second the bag is off my head, my eyes scan the room, and I’m gobsmacked to know exactly where I am.

“You slimy rat.”

He laughs. “Don’t insult it. I thought it was a great idea.”

You would.Harry was never the sharpest tool in the shed.

The last place Tony is going to look for me is his own torture warehouse.

Beside the chair he walks over to sit back on is a table. I can see the handles of tools poking out from the edge. Horror races through me, threatening to make me throw up. If Tony doesn’t play his game, looks like Harry is going to give him incentive.

“You’re sick in the head.”

“I won’t argue with that, but at least from the look on your face, you’re taking me seriously now. You better hope Tony does, too, or you’re going to suffer, princess.”

My stomach rolls, and I’m suddenly grateful I am on my side, because if I throw up, at least I won’t choke. “Did you steal the shipment?”

“No, I just saw an opportunity. Your worth has shot up the last few days, with Joseph being involved, so I put the ransom money up. Figured between the two of them, they’d find it easy to pay up. Why would I go after cocaine when I can have the money straight away?”

“How much have you asked for?” How much can he possibly think I’m worth in cold hard cash?

“A mil’.” He says it cockily, already gloating like he has it. Does he have no doubt that the only thing Tony is going to give him is a one-way ticket on the highway to hell?

The idea of Tony handing over one million pounds for my safe release is so ridiculous, I find myself laughing. The craziness of the scenario, combined with the adrenaline and panic rushing through me, makes me unable to stop. I laugh so hard tears run down my face and onto the grey cement.

“You…think…you’ll…actually…get it?” I snort, unladylike. “You’ll be disappointed. The only thing he’s going to do is kill you, and the more you hurt me…the longer it will take for you to die.” I’ve never believed anything stronger. Tony is going to kill this man when he finds me.

“I guess we will see, won’t we?” Harry reaches across to the table, picking up a gnarly knife that doesn’t look like it’s been cleaned recently.

Dried blood is still on the handle.

CHAPTER8

JOSEPH

My heart poundsas a mixture of fear and fury boils through my body. The idea of Alice getting hurt makes me go blind. Nothing can happen to my baby girl. Nothing. If a single hair is harmed on her head, I’m going to skin whoever is behind it alive.

“I found her phone smashed outside.” Tony curses as he comes back from looking at where Alice was taken from. I’d been too shocked and terrified to move. “I can’t track her if she doesn’t have her phone.Fuck!”Of course, he has a tracker on her phone. They’re best friends.

“I can track her.” The statement causes the buzz in the pub to silence.

“How?” Tony looks both relieved and pissed that I planted a tracker on her, but the relief wins when I pull out my phone.

“I put a permanent bracelet on her. It’s got a tracker in it.” I pull up the map, looking at the blinking locator with relief. It’s not far away. “Do you know this place?”

I lift my phone view. He shakes his head with confusion before outrage takes over.

Then fear.

“It’s where weinterviewpeople.”

When I realise what he means, nausea rises like acid in the back of my throat.

“Boys! Be ready to leave!”

Tony’s men move to go behind the bar, heading to where they store their weaponry, I assume.
