“Aside from that?” He jabs his tongue into his cheek. “A desperate man.”

“Desperate,” I faux gasp. “Surely, you’re not desperate for a woman.”

“Yes. I am,” he says in the most serious tone I’ve heard in a while. “The truth is that I’ve never met anyone I’ve connected with on more than a sexual level. You’re the only woman who has ever challenged me. That makes me desperate for you.”

“That sounds horrible.” I place my hand on his cheek.

He frowns. “I’d like to know where you stand on all of this. You do not seem as distressed as I am.”

My teeth grip my bottom lip as I squint one eye in concentration. “Our current location makes it difficult for sure.”

“That was your rule,” he growls.

I tip my head to the side, eyes roaming his body with hunger. “I might just give in.”

“Is that right?” His eyes brighten. “What do I need to do, love? Tell me, and it’s yours.”

I can feel my heart rate increase. “Hmm. Let me think about that,” I tease.

Charles smiles and I walk to his side of the desk, motioning for him to join me. When he’s seated, I sit on his lap and look at him.

“Raven,” he warns. “I’ll respect your wishes, but if you continue to toy with me, I can’t be held responsible if I snap.”

“A little snapping never hurt anyone.”

I throw my arms around his neck, crashing my lips to his. I moan at the feel of his tongue against mine. His hand caresses my breasts through my blouse, and I’m aching for more. He never pushes things further, respecting my decision.

I’m not sure whether to scream or beg, but I’m about to do both.

He pulls away just for a moment. “I know what you want, but not here, love.”

I groan, knowing I’ve taken this game further than I should’ve. We’re in the office, and I haven’t changed my mind about messing around here where anyone could catch us. It’s just that I lose my mind when he’s this close.

“You’re right. We can’t, but it’s not that I don’t want to.”

His head falls back on his shoulders as he blows out a harsh breath. “But it’s the office, and we should keep this private.”

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have—”

He waves off my next words. “Please don’t apologize. I was in it with you.”

“I wish we didn’t have to hide this.”

“Me, too,” he says.

“I don’t want people in the office to think I got this job because of it.”

“I understand. And I agree with you.”

My mind drifts to unpleasant possibilities, and as much as I don’t want to darken the mood, I think it’s past time we discuss what happens if things go south.

“Charles, if things don’t work out, we need to agree to end it on mutual terms. We both need to promise we won’t let it affect our work relationship.”

“Of course, but that is not something I want to think about now,” he says and grins at me. “Just let me kiss you.”

“We said not in the office.”

“How about not in the office after today?”
