Had she left?

What the hell was I going to do if she was gone?

I knocked again, and when she didn’t answer, jerked the doorknob to the side.

The door was locked; that was a good sign.

I stepped back, turning to the side a bit and getting ready to step forward and break the damned thing down. I took two hard steps, and just before my shoulder collided with the door, my fated mate pulled the thing open.

My shoulder collided with her face, and we crashed to the floor together.

“What the hell?” Her voice was somewhere between a pained groan and a pissed demand.

“Fuck.” I rolled off her, propping myself up off the ground with one hand and checking her face with the other. “Are you okay?” My hand cupped her chin, and I carefully turned her head from side to side.

“Of course I’m not fine, you rammed my face with your fucking beefy shoulder,” she spat at me, shoving my hand off her skin. “Don’t touch me.” She rolled away from me, standing up faster than I would’ve expected given the fact that I’d accidentally just knocked her to the ground.

What the fuck was wrong with me.

I felt my energy wane and hissed. “Fucking hell.” My eyes closed, and I focused on the moon.

I needed it to be night time already—I was barely surviving the shit show that this day had been.

“What is all this?” My fated mate’s voice was somewhere between defensive and curious. I clenched my jaw to force myself to focus on the sky.

If the moon fell, we’d be fucked.

If the moon fell, we’d be fucked.

If the moon fell, we’d be fucked.

Maybe if I repeated it enough times, I’d stop being distracted by the curves of her body and the color of her hair and the fire in those sexy blue eyes and every other damned gorgeous thing about her.

“Shampoo, conditioner, soap, and pants? If this is your version of a welcome package, it’s a shitty one,” she drawled.

I finally got the moon under control, and let out a slow breath as I opened my eyes and found her staring at me.

“You’re close to losing control, aren’t you?” Her voice sounded amused.

And despite her disdain toward mywelcomepackage, she was holding the bundle of items to her chest, sitting on the edge of her bed.

And her eyes looked… red.

“Were you crying?” My voice came out more like a snarl than I expected.

Dammit, she was going to think I was a fucking monster.

Honestly, she wouldn’t be all that far off if she did think so.

Her gaze hardened. “Mind your own fucking business, mate.” She stood swiftly, and strode across the room. Her hands were on my chest, then she was shoving me out of the room. She wasn’t anywhere near strong enough to push me out if I’d really tried to stop her, but I found myself walking backward, letting her remove me from her space.

“Tell me what made you cry and I’ll fix it,” I growled to her, as she grabbed the door to her room.

Those sexy blues, narrowed at me. “How are you going to fix yourself?”

And with that, the door was slammed in my face.

I let out a rough breath.
