“No, I don’t.” I turned to Josh after responding to Cameron. “Doyouhave any idea where she might have gone?”

He shook his head.

I sighed as I put my finger to my temples and rubbed them. “Okay, let me think for a few minutes. In the meantime, I’m going up to the balcony, maybe I can feel her someplace out there.”

“I’ll come with you,” Cameron said. I was going to tell him to get lost, but whatever.

I turned to Josh as we left, “Check the security cameras and see if you can tell where she left the building.”

“I already have Jett doing that.” He responded.

I turned and put my hands on his shoulders, “She is going to be alright, Josh.”

He nodded, and I left his staring after me as Cameron and I got on the elevator.

“Did you have any idea that was coming?” Cameron asked.

“No, did you?”

“Not at all. Personally, I think she’s doing a great job. I don’t understand why they suddenly want to push for her to be mated.”

“Because they are controlling bastards.” I hissed. “God, she’s given up everything to watch over the breed, and they do this to her.”

“Angelina, I can understand where they are coming from, kind of. I mean, they want her to be safe and strong. She does need someone to bond with so she can get what she needs.”

“Oh, trust me, Cam. She gets plenty of blood. She has no shortage of volunteers.”

He chuckled as the elevator door opened, and we walked to my apartment door. “I’m sure she does.”

I opened the door and went toward the staircase that went up to the patio. Our apartments were identical and the only two that had an entrance to the roof. Not that I needed to use it like she did. I was able to come and go as often as I wanted. No one was gunning for me, at least not in the way they were for her.

At times I wished she wasn’t the leader of our race here in the U.S., if she weren’t, she could leave this god forsaken building once in a while. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. Man, I missed those earlier days when things were settled and we’d hit the bar together, catch a movie, or stay up to all hours talking over the bullshit we did when we were growing up.

Not that we grew up together. Kristin and I had been separated at birth, and it wasn’t until Alex was kidnapped many years ago that we learned we had a sibling. Not just a sibling, but a twin. Although we were as different as night and day at times.

Our father, Burke, had raised me and I had known since I was young what I was and what I would one day become. Kristin had not. Our mother had staged her own death, using her sister’s body in place of her own, and Kristin had been raised as a human.

Kristin had killed our father when she came to rescue Alexander the first time that she was mated to him. Although, she wasn’t mated to him when she rescued him. His son, Trent, had been sent to protect her when Alex had gone missing, and after being pressured into breaking the bond to protect Kristin, he had accidentally mated with her.

Their relationship had been a good one, for the most part. Sometimes he tried to be overbearing, or he’d get a stick up his ass, but he was good to her and she had loved him. She had also loved Alex, and Julian. We can’t forget good old dad!

I stared out into the night; my mind lost in thought as I dwelled back to the earliest memories I had. Back when Kristin was Calista and she had been mated to Julian. At that time, my soul had been in that of a child, their child, Anastasia. Julian’s own son, Damon, had been the one to kill Calista and me back then by bleeding us out quickly, but he didn’t have enough time to stake us. Because he didn’t do that, our souls were not lost forever, and we had been reborn—reborn as sisters.

I reached out into the night, trying to feel something, but the only thing I could feel was Cameron beside me. “Can you please go sit down; you are to close.”

He laughed, “You used to like when I was close.”

I rolled my eyes. Yes, once upon a time I was mated to Cameron, but that was before he decided that I wasn’t enough, and he found sweet, little Rosa. Or maybe I had been too much for him. That was probably more correct.

I closed my eyes and tried to focus on Kristin, tried to feel her somewhere out there in the night, but I couldn’t. She was completely blocked off.

As I stood there trying to locate her, I slipped back in time again to when I had first come face to face with Kristin. We had been in the center of a wind vortex that my human-turned, Olivia, had created. I had needed her help, the help of all of them, and that’s why I had turned Kristin’s best friend, Livy, into a vampire. I needed a bridge to get Kristin’s attention, and luckily it had worked.

The man that I had been involved with, bonded to, was breeding human-turned females to find ones with special abilities that he could use to take over the race. It was always about taking over the race, I frowned. Back then and now, it was the same. Who could control us the most? Who could make sure we stayed in line, did their bidding? I was sick of it.

Leo had been disposed of, and then I had almost been killed. Along with me, Olivia and Gabriel, her mate, had almost died because they were only bound to me when Leo’s brother, Fitz, shot me. I wonder what Olivia and Gabe were doing now. Who were they double bonded to now that Trent was dead? The complexities of our world made me exhale loudly.

I reached out again, sifting through all the vampires out there that I had shared blood with and searching for the strongest one. It was faint when I first felt it and I turned to the east and smiled. There you are sister dear.
