She nodded and disappeared into his apartment just as Angelina’s door opened and a stern looking Cameron came out. He glanced my way for a split second and then went straight to the stairs, pushing the lock bar and disappearing into the stairwell.

“Well, not sure what to think of that.” I joked and everyone laughed.

“Mistress,” Jett spoke a moment later, “The elders would like to see you.”

I exhaled loudly, “I’m surprised they aren’t banging on my door. Come on, let’s go let them ream me out.”

The three of them escorted me down to the floor where our offices were, and our smaller conference room. Generally, when Joshua wasn’t around me, there were four of them that escorted me, but with Paxton busy, Lorna and Jett flanked me, and Ryker took the position behind me.

The elders were waiting for me when I stepped inside the conference room and closed the door, leaving my sentinels in the hallway. All of the elders were serious faced as they observed me take a seat and I wanted to sigh heavily, but I held it in. Nothing like getting scolded by what could be your parents and grandparents at the same time.

I leaned back, crossing my legs, and lacing my fingers.

“How is Josh?” Scarlett asked.

“He’s fine. He will be recovered in no time.” I told her.

Beckett seemed surprised, “You mean he is actually going to live after taking your blood?”

“Yes,” I didn’t bother to tell them that I had removed almost all of it from him. That was not something that they needed to be aware of—my own little secret for now.

“Well, I’m glad he will be alright.” Clayton said with relief and then his expression turned stern again.

I put my hand up, “Wait, before you all decided to chastise me for what I did, let me apologize. You took me by surprise, and I lashed out. You know that I don’t normally do that, but I guess there have been quite a few things on my mind as of recent, and what you were requesting—demanding—put me over the top.”

I encompassed the group and found Scarlett, Hazel and Henry nodded slowly as if accepting my apology. I focused on Becket. “What you wish for, me to be mated, is not a bad idea. The way you went about it—was. What you should have all done, was voice your opinions and concerns to me directly so that we could have discussed them. I am not a child, so please stop treating me like one.”

“You’re considering it?” Scarlett asked.

“I will consider it, but I will find the proper mate for myself. I will not allow you to dictate whom I should mate with. This is not a monarchy, and I am not searching for the correct pedigree to make you all happy. I will think on the matter, figure out who the best person will be, and then I will discuss it with them, and you also. I will not make any rash decisions.”

Beckett seemed to relax in his seat, “Very well. I think we can accept that, but we don’t want you to waste time. You need to do this as soon as you can.”

“Beckett, I will. I do agree with you that I need to be the strongest that I can be,” I paused, “Which is why I have also made another decision.”

“Such as?” Henry asked.

I glanced at Clayton, “I’m surprised you didn’t already tell them.”

“Oh, no, I preferred not to have a hand in that.” He shook his head as he spoke.

“Why do I get the feeling that we are not going to like this next suggestion?” Hazel asked with pursed lips.

“It’s not a suggestion.” I told her. “It is what I am going to.”

Henry laughed, “Always so strong willed, you are.”

“Yes, and that is what makes me a good Mistress, is that not correct?”

“Well, what is this idea that you have?” Beckett prodded.

“I’m going to start leaving the building more often. I’m going to get out there on the streets and be around our breed.”

All of them started to talk at once, except Clayton who gave me a I-told-you-so-look. I put my hand up to stop them. “Listen to what I have to say, and then you can share your disdain for the idea.”

They grew quiet and I shifted in my seat, “I feel the need to get out there and mingle with our breed. I need to be seen. For too long I have been sequestered here in this damn hotel and have expected our breed to follow me. What do they really know of me? Why should they follow me? Alex protected me too much when he was around and after he died, I became a voice, not a face. It is time for them to see me, believe in me.”

Hazel laughed, “What are you going to do, go on a campaign trail?”
