“Are we really goingout?” I asked, trying to contain my excitement. “I mean, going out to have fun, not do something for business?”

“Yes, we are really going out, Lena. I told them that we are going to that club that you like to visit, what was the name, Darkness something?”

“Dangers in the Darkness.”

“Ah, yes.” She laughed. I hadn’t seen Kristin so damn relaxed and happy in years.

Man, please do not let this go south, I thought as I followed her to the elevator, and Joshua joined us. He winked at Kristin and smiled at me before he hit the button.

“You remember the rules we talked about?” he asked my sister.

“Yes, I will stick by your side while we were outside of the club, but while we are in there, you need to give me a little bit of space, Josh.”

“I will, but I’m never going to be more than an arm’s length away from you.”

She lifted a brow, “You dance?”

He frowned, “No.”

“Well, then we are going to get more than an arm’s length away, because I plan on dancing my little heart out.”

“I told you that this place actually has alcohol that will give you a buzz, right?” I asked my sister before the two of them got into an argument about her dancing. “It only lasts a few minutes, but they mix some chemical in it that gives us a nice buzz.”

“I look forward to that. I can’t remember the last time I had a buzz.” Kristin grinned and the elevator opened. Standing in the lobby were Ryker, Jett, Lorna, Paxton, and Conner.

“Looks like the gang is all here.” Kristin encompassed them with a huge grin that was returned.

“Mom!” Rex called from the other side of the lobby, and the smile faltered on her lips as she shifted toward him. “What are you doing? Do you really think you should be going out?”

She lifted a brow, “Who is the parent here?”

“I’m worried about you.” He said.

“Well, stop, Rex. God, you are more like your father every day.”

“I’m going to take that as a compliment.” He growled. “Let me come with you.”

“Nope. I’m going out with my sister.”

“What about all of these guys?”

“Well, I couldn’t very well go out with my entourage, now could I? Another time, perhaps.” She spun from him and walked toward the hall to the garage.

“Don’t worry, Rex, she will be fine, and this will do her good.”

“Yeah, if you say so.” Rex muttered as I walked away

We piled into our transport, and Joshua sat at her side, his hand on her knee as everyone spoke quietly amongst themselves. Josh and I were probably the only ones that picked up on Kristin’s tension. I knew that she wanted to prove something, but she was also cautious enough to know that things could go wrong. Shit with our luck, things probably would go wrong.

“Is everyone strapped?” I asked as I glanced over the group.

Heads nodded and a few flashed weapons under their clothing.

“They aren’t going to let them in with those.” I told Kristin. “They don’t allow weapons, and technology doesn’t work in there either. It’s blocked somehow. No cameras, no phones.”

“Well, that’s good.” Kris said, “And don’t worry about the weapons. You can leave that to me.”

“Oh, yeah, I forgot who I was going with. The compelling queen.”
