A loud laugh on the other side of the room broke our connection and she took a long pull off her glass. The slim column of her neck visible to me for a moment and I could envision my mouth placing hot kisses over it.

I cleared my throat and glanced away as I shifted in my seat. She set her glass down on the table, “Well, Hugh, it was nice to talk to you, but I have a video conference I need to attend.”

I reached over the table and touched her hand with the tips of my fingers, “I can wait for you.”

“Why would you want to?”

“Because I want to talk to you, Kristin.”

She leaned forward, lowering her voice, “You want to talk, or—” a split-second later her soft voice slipped through my head,“or you want to see my spread out naked for you?”

I blink and then stared at my drink, had I had more than two, or was this spiked with something? She laughed as I lifted my confused gaze back to hers, her eyes were now light blue.

“I’ll have Ryker take you to my apartment. I’ll meet you there when I’m done with my call.” Before I could even reply, she was out of her seat, and one of the men from earlier this evening was heading my way. Yeah, I doubted that he was going to take me to her apartment. He was probably going to show my ass to the door.

Surprisingly, he led me to a different elevator, and put a key into the panel to bypass the settings. The doors closed and the elevator began to ascend quickly. Why did she want me in her apartment? Was it so we could talk? Or had she somehow known what I was thinking? Did she really repeat back the same thought that I’d had about her into my mind? I’d hear rumors that they could read our minds and possible speak to us mentally, was this confirmation?

The elevator stopped on the ninth floor, and Jett stepped out going to one of the five doors in the short hallway. He unlocked the door with his thumb on a pad beside it, and held it open for me. Was this a prison? Was I going to be held captive? I stepped through the door and stared at the room in front of me. Well, hell—if I was being held captive, it was going to be the nicest place I’d ever been.

The living room was filled with cream and beige furniture, and there was a loft on the opposite side that contained an office area. The man went around me and reached for the remote to the television. “You into football?” He asked.

“Yeah,” I replied as I came closer to the seating area.

He nodded and dropped the remote to the couch, “You want a beer?”

“Sure,” I said as I sat on the edge of a suede chair.

Ryker walked over to a bar on the opposite side of the room and pulled open a small fridge, removing two bottles. He came back and handed one to me before he plopped down on the sofa like he lived here.

I glanced around, wondering what the hell I was doing here. I’d wanted to talk to her, see if I could get her to understand what we had been proposing earlier.

“You’re a lucky man.” Ryker said with a sly grin.

“Why is that?”

“It’s not often that humans are invited into the inner sanctum. She must like you.”

“The inner sanctum?”

He laughed, “Yeah, usually when she’s with a human, she takes them to another room, screws them, feeds from them and then leaves them alone to sleep it off.”

I think my jaw fell open a little bit. “Um, I’m not here to sleep with her. I only want to talk.”

“Yeah, okay, man.” He took a long drink from his bottle, “I would totally do the Mistress if I had the chance. She is one hell of a hot woman.”

I frowned at the side of his head. While I agreed with him, I had to believe that he was wrong. Or was he? Had she not somehow known what I was thinking downstairs? Was she going to feed from me, as he put it? Something akin to a shiver raced down my spine, but I wasn’t sure if that was for fear or excitement.

Ryker remained quiet for the rest of the time, his focus on the television. I tried to let it capture my attention, but my eyes kept wandering around the room. There were pictures scattered about, but I wasn’t close enough to see any of them, and I wasn’t sure my curiosity would be appreciated.

It was maybe forty minutes later when the door opened, and she stepped in. Her gaze slipping over mine to Ryker, “Get your shoes off my couch, Ryker.”

“Sorry, Mistress.” He said with a laugh as he stood. “You need anything else?”

“No, that will be all. Thank you.” He passed by her and I noticed the other man who had been with her earlier in the evening outside in the hall. He was staring at me, and not in a good way.

The door closed and I shifted my eyes back to her. She was watching me carefully, and then began to walk toward a hallway. As she went, she removed the suit jacket that she had on and disappeared through a door.

Okay, maybe she had to use the restroom, or was changing clothes. I sipped my beer and waited. About five minutes later, her voice slipped into my head again, “Are you going to come in here, or do I need to come out there?”
