“I’m not sure why I haven’t been to Philadelphia before, there is so much to see, so much to taste.” He hissed.

Kristin cocked her head to the side, “Adam, what is that you want?”

She knew him? How did she know his name? Josh and I peered at one another as if he was thinking the same thing.

“To talk, Mistress. Although I was kind of hoping I might get a dance with you. I hear you like to get your groove on.” He glanced around him, “But it might be more fun if we are closer together, don’t you think?”

Kristin’s face was turned slightly sideways, and I saw her begin to smile. “But of course, if that is what you’d like, I’d love to dance. I’ve been standing here waiting for the right partner.”

She took a step forward and Josh tensed. I felt several of the others prepare to move, but she nixed that with one word, “Remain.”

She stepped away, and my hand dropped from her back.

“Why can’t I move?”Hugh asked me mentally.

“Because she compelled us all to stay here. She really can ruin all the fun sometimes.”

“Is she really going to dance with him?”

“Yep.”

Josh growled lowly as Kristin reached the top of the stairs. “Why don’t you come up here, we can dance on the top floor.”

He glanced through the glass floor, “looks a little crowded.”

“Move!” She commanded and the people on the floating floor began to come alive, but not to continue to dance. They walked like zombies off the floor and over to the side.

“Plenty of room now.” She smiled down at him. “You can bring your men if you wish, but I will only dance with you. I’m kind of a one-man woman, you know?”

A wide grin filled his face as he let his eyes practically strip her naked. I felt Hugh growing anxious beside me.

“Calm yourself, little boy.”

“What if he tries to kill her?”

“She can take care of herself, trust me—trust her.”

He sighed, I felt it more than heard it. While we weren’t able to walk toward her, we could move. Our group shifted uneasily, as Adam climbed the steps. He was tall, maybe six feet three, with dark brown hair, and dark green eyes filled with malevolence.

He reached the top, and glanced at our group, then back to his own. He had come up alone, cocky little fucker. His men below looked nervous, their gazes jumping from us, to him and then to Kristin.

She held her hand out to the dance floor, “Please.”

“Oh, no, I’m a gentleman. Ladies first, Mistress.”

The smile she gave him was so out of place for the moment. It was almost sweet, wistful, and I wondered what the hell was going on. I tried to reach out to her, but her mind was blocked. Had she blocked it, or was he doing something to her.

Hugh squeezed my hand, glancing at me as if he knew I was unsure of something. I tightened my grasp on his, preparing to break her compulsion if need be and get moving. That was something that I could do. I could break any compulsion that she created, especially if I had help to create it.

Kristin stepped ahead of Adam onto the dancefloor. The two of them now cocooned inside the circular glass enclosure with only one opening, the bridge that led back to the VIP section. They circled one another as the music thump-thump-thumped around us. My heart now beating as hard as the base was.

He put his hand out to her, as if he were a gentleman, and she took it. A second later, he had spun her around and had her back to his front. His arm wrapped tightly around her body and I started to open my mouth to break the compulsion.

Only Kristin glanced toward me and smiled as her eyes flashed brightly once, and her hips began to move to the beat.
