“Oh, that’s a story for around the campfire later, my dear Josh.”I grinned saucily at him.“Keep your focus on her and forget about Hugh. I will look after him.”

Josh shook his head and spun to catch up to Kristin who had just disappeared into the club. Dominic was at the door and he stared hard at Hugh.

“He’s the Mistresses consort.” I stated to him as I smiled brightly up at him. He nodded and let us pass as he basically eye-fucked Hugh in a not-so-good-way.

Inside, the club was jumping as if nothing had happened here earlier. A few of the patrons seemed nervous to see her arrive, but you could feel the pride of others filling the air as she walked through the crowd as if it were just another night of fun. I laced my fingers with Hugh, as we threaded through the bodies packed on the dancefloor and toward the stairs.

I felt his curiosity as he looked around, but he remained quiet as we took the stairs and the DJ lowered the music to make his announcement, “The Mistress is back in the house!”

I noticed that I hadn’t been announced this time, but I had a feeling that had more to do with the earlier threat then him being neglectful. The crowd of party goers roared with excitement and I glanced back at Hugh. He seemed shocked by the way the people began to chant her name and whistle for her.

“She is very loved.”I whispered to him.

“I see that.” He replied vocally.

“Speak back to me with your mind.”I answered him and a line marred his forehead.

“How?”

“Just like that. Direct your thoughts to the person you want them to go to, and if their mind is open to you, they will go through. Works best with people you have shared blood with.”

“I haven’t had your blood.”

“Yes, but I have had yours, and what yummy blood it was.”I grinned at him and he laughed slightly.

We climbed the stairs behind the rest of our group, Conner and Jett glancing back to check on us. At the top, Kristin went to stand at the balcony, and the sentinels with us made a semi-circle around her. Hugh and I stood behind her, and I kept my fingers intertwined with his. I had brought him here, and I wasn’t going to be responsible for him being hurt.

The music continued, the people danced as if nothing had happened or was about to. Our party remained still and watchful. None of us moving to the musical notes that we had previously enjoyed. Tonight, was not for fun.

We had been there almost thirty minutes before Kristin tensed, and Josh stepped to her side. She lifted one hand from the railing, the only moment to stop him from touching her. His hands fisted at his side and Hugh glanced between him, Kris and me, a brow up in question.

“She doesn’t want to be hidden. She needs to be felt.”

“Angelina.”Kristin’s voice was a strong command in my head, and I stepped forward a few inches, touching her back between her shoulder blades. I still had a hold of Hugh’s hand and when I made the connection with Kristin, I felt a wave of power fill me and flow into her. Her shoulders tensed and her head snapped to the side, her silver eyes wide, and so damn bright that I blinked. She took in the hold I had on Hugh and turned back, her lips lifting in the start of a smile.

I had been right. Even as an un-transitioned, his power was strong. This was even stronger than when we used to connect with Julian. My god, had we found the perfect weapon in Hugh?

Kristin lifted her hands, they glowed slightly like her eyes. Something none of us had ever seen before and someone behind me gasped. “All of those not of my blood, freeze.”

All around us bodies stopped in the exact position that they had been upon command. It was rather comical to see legs bent; bodies twisted, and arms raised wildly in the air.

“What the fuck?” Hugh whispered.

“Pretty awesome, isn’t it?” I replied and heard Lorna snicker behind me.

The only sounds in the club were now of the music blaring, the heavy thump-thump-thump of the base seemingly out of place with all the frozen bodies. The lights continued to pulse, flashing around us in odd patterns, and very softly downstairs the pity-patter of feet filtered up to my ears.

A clap radiated through the club from down below, and then another one, and another one until a deep laugh filled the air, and seemed almost louder than the music. Three men stepped into view, and then five more behind them. They wove through the statues below, knocking into a couple and shifting them to make pathways.

“Nice trick, Mistress.” He called up to her as he stopped clapping. “Too bad it didn’t work on us.”

“I didn’t expect it too.” She replied in a calm but strong voice.

She didn’t? I had kind of been hoping it would. Why hadn’t it?

“Well, I’m so glad that we were able to meet, although you did interrupt a fine meal.”

“I hear you have quite an appetite.” Kristin spoke in a sweet voice as if they were talking about fine dining.
