I wanted to tell him to calm, but I didn’t want to chance opening my mind for the slightest of a second. I glanced at my sister and then back to Hugh. I saw her nod just the slightest bit. Thank god, she understood me without saying a word.

“He wants you at his side, so that you two can come together.” He said into my ear. “Although before you are his, you will be mine.”

I laughed; the sound high pitched as if I were delighted with the thought. Give me a fucking break. “If he wants me at his side, then he needs to come to me. I will not be beckoned like a commoner. If he wants me, he needs to show me the man he is.”

He laughed huskily, “You know he will not do that. I think he fears you, Mistress. Don’t tell him that I told you that, but he wants you to come on your own.”

“I don’t think that is going to happen anytime soon.” I said with a smile.

He pressed our bodies up against the glass wall behind us, “What about us? What about we blow this joint?”

I touched his face, staring into the eyes that I had dreamed of pulling their sockets. “You will have to wait.”

“For what?”

I smiled shyly, glancing over his shoulder, “Until I don’t have my men with me.”

He turned and looked at our group and laughing, “You have human consort? I never pictured you to slum it.”

“Hey, a girl has her needs.” I purred.

“I could fulfill those needs better than any human.” He shoved his hips forward as if to prove a point.

“I have no doubt that you could, but that is not going to happen—at least not tonight.” I stared at him, my voice going low as I leaned my mouth toward his, I licked at his lip, nipping once gently and he growled. I nipped again, just hard enough to acquire a drop of his blood. The taste making my stomach roll with revulsion. “Now put me down, and leave. Your message has been received. On your way out of town, you will not kill anymore humans.”

He stared at me, and slowly let my legs fall to the glass floor. In the reflection of his eyes, I saw the glow of mine.

“Tell your Master that if he wants me, then he must come to get me himself.” I leaned forward, my lips almost touching his again, “Do you understand me?”

He blinked as if he were trying to fight my compulsion, but he couldn’t. I was too close for him to resist it, and I was far too strong for him for him to win the fight.

As I pulled back, I dropped the compulsion before he and his men picked up on it. The process had taken only a few seconds, and they would be none the wiser. Even he would have no concept of what I had done, only that I had kissed him.

“I will relay your message,” he said and leered at me as he stepped back. “Until we meet again, Mistress.”

“Until we meet again, Adam.”

He walked backwards a few steps and then turned and left the dancefloor. He paused a few feet away from Hugh and laughed again, shaking his head, “A human consort. The Master will love that.”

He stared at me as he took the stairs, his eyes devouring my body as he went. On the bottom floor, he shoved two frozen vampires out of his way. They toppled over to the floor. One of his men drew a stake and slammed it into another dancer before they all laughed. Adam grinned one more time up at me and then went to the door, his men following him. I stepped off the dancefloor, “Return.” I said to the people who had once been there, and they filled the floor again.

Once everyone was back in place, I lifted my hands to my sides, “Resume.” I called and suddenly the place came back to life around us. I stared down at the two people on the floor as they looked around wildly wondering how they had gotten there. The ash of the third one filtered down and I prayed he had not been mated to someone here. After a moment of confusion, everything returned to normal with the crowd.

“What the hell were you thinking?” Josh said to me the minute he could move again.

I glared at him, “Watch yourself.” I stated under my breath.

A muscle in his jaw flexed repeatedly as he ground his teeth, and I began to take the stairs down. Everyone followed me, and once we were outside, we all piled into my transport, even Hugh.

“I know a lot just happened back there,” Lorna said, “But can someone please explain to me why he’s still alive?” She pointed at Hugh.

I glanced around at the occupants, knowing that they were all wondering the same thing. My sister had a smirk on her face, and I rolled my eyes as I sighed.

“There is nothing to explain.” I shrugged a shoulder.

“Bullshit,” Joshua said. “I’ve been feeding you for years, and one mouthful of your blood nearly killed me. How can he handle it? He’s only a fucking human.”

“Is he?” Angelina said quickly.
