“No, I like her too, but we aren’t there yet.”

“Well, I look forward to meeting Roxanne then. You’re coming Saturday morning, right?”

“Yes, but is it going to be a problem with sleeping arrangements? I can always take the couch so she can have my room.”

“We will figure something out. Let her know that I look forward to meeting her.” There was a click on the line. “Kayley is calling; I better take that. I love you. See you on Saturday.”

“I love you too, Mom. See you on Saturday.”

After I hung up, I found a text message from Roxy.I’m looking forward to it. Be safe and stay warm at work.

I rolled out of bed after telling her I would and found myself whistling as I headed into the bathroom. I hadn’t looked forward to something like this in a long time.

Chapter Nine

Roxanne

Iwoke up much earlier than I wanted to because I was hurting and found it was time to take more pain medication. I discovered Lee’s note beside a glass of water, and even though I didn’t want to wake up yet, I turned on the light and read it.

I sighed as I finished. Lee was such an incredibly sweet man. As much as I hated that I’d been injured in an accident, I was glad that I had met him. I slowly got off the couch and made my way to the bathroom, pausing as I scanned the kitchen and found it spotless.

“Wow, he not only cooks, but he cleans, too. I do believe he might be a keeper.” I started to grin and then winced instead as my face ached. “Damn broken nose,” I muttered.

After using the bathroom, I went back to the kitchen and opened the fridge. Inside were nine containers that hadn’t been there the day before. Three of them were salads, and the other six were small pasta meals. “I think I’m in love with this guy.”

I poured myself a glass of orange juice and then climbed back on the couch. After finishing my glass and taking my pills, I curled up with the note on my chest and fell back to sleep. I woke up a couple hours later and picked up my phone, sending Lee a quick text to let him know that I’d love to come for the weekend and thanked him again for last night.

I scanned through my emails, not finding anything that needed my attention, and then set my phone down and picked up the TV remote. I was flipping through my movie channels when the front door opened. I sure hoped it was my brother and not a stranger. Had Lee locked the door last night when he left? I pulled the blanket up close to my chin as if I could hide from an intruder, but I instantly relaxed when Roman came around the corner.

“You’re awake. I figured you would be sleeping in.”

“No, I’ve been awake for a little while. Why are you here so early?”

He dropped a bag on the counter. “I met someone for breakfast. Thought I would bring you a doggie bag.”

I eyed the bag suspiciously. “What’s in there, a half-eaten breakfast sandwich?”

“No,” he grunted. “I got you a blueberry bagel.”

I perked up. “With cream cheese on it?”

He shook his head. “I didn’t know if you liked cream cheese.”

“So, you brought me a dry bagel?”

He shrugged. “Yeah, I figured you could put on it what you wanted.”

I guess I should be happy that he thought of me in the first place. “Thanks.”

“You’re welcome. Now, why the hell was Young here last night?”

“Jesus, Roman, we told you that last night. He came over to cook me dinner,” I said with obvious irritation in my voice.

“Yeah, but why? Did you sleep with him?”

“You’re an ass, Roman. I just had surgery. The last thing on my mind was sleeping with anyone.”

“Yeah, but he tried, didn’t he?”
