“I can tell, and I don’t mind.” She chuckled.

I hesitated, not sure I should broach this subject with her or not, but she had mentioned before that she really needed clients. “I know you love planning weddings, but have you ever considered branching out to parties?”

She shook her head.

“You know that might be a way to get a leg up on your competition. You could do eventandwedding planning.”

Her brows dropped low as she considered my words. “I guess I never considered it.”

“I know that it’s not what you really wanted, but this might give you an opportunity. I mean, helping my mom with this—if you were interested. I don’t think they can pay you, but it might give you some leads into other clients. There is a lot of money out here; it might not look like it, but we have a lot of wealthy families with holiday homes on the mountainside.”

“But Millerstown is two hours away from my house. It would be complicated for me to coordinate things from that far away, especially in the winter with the weather.”

“You could consider moving.”

“Moving?” she blurted. “I’ve lived in Plattsville my whole life.”

“Yeah, and so has your competition. As far as I know, there are no wedding planners or party planning companies around town. You can start over in a new location with new people.” She stared at her hands for a moment, picking at one of her nails. “Look, I’m not trying to tell you what to do. I have no right to do that, and this is just a suggestion. Starting over someplace could be good for you.”

I didn’t tell her that being away from her family might also help her. That really wasn’t my place to speak about.

“I don’t know, Lee. I guess I need to think about it. I see what you’re saying, but I’ve never considered moving before.”

“Wouldn’t it be nice to have a fresh start, get out from under competition?”

“Yeah, but there could be a lot of expense in starting over. I’d have to get out of my townhouse lease, terminate my lease for my office, and find similar places out here.”

“I’m sure my sister could help you out.”

“Riley?” she asked, confused.

“No, Kayley is a real estate agent, and while she is in New York, she has her license here in Pennsylvania, too.”

Roxy began to gnaw on her bottom lip. “I don’t know, Lee.” She started laughing. “I don’t even have a car right now. I have to find time to go shopping for a new one. How can I come back and forth between there and here to get things moving?”

“I can help you shop for a car.”

“You have done so much, Lee. I’m not sure I can ask for anything else.”

I took her hands. “Roxanne, I like you, and I want to see you happy. If I can do something to help with that, then I want to.”

She was quiet as she studied me carefully. “Where did I find you?”

I laughed as I cupped her cheek. “Actually, I thinkIfoundyoustuck in your car.”

She grinned. “Yeah, I guess you did.”

“So, what do you think?”

“I think that I want to consider it, but I need some time to really contemplate it all. This would be a huge change.”

“Yes, it would.” Suddenly, she lifted her gaze to mine, looking worried. “What’s wrong?”

“If I moved out this way, I’d be two hours from you.”

“Yeah, you would.”

“I know we haven’t known each other long, but I do like you, Lee. If I moved now, how could we continue to get to know one another?”
