“Two hours isn’t that far, Roxy. I’m sure we could come up with something.”

“You’re right, probably.” She sighed. “I’ll consider it, okay?”

“Absolutely.” I lifted her chin and kissed her tenderly. “You think as long as you need to, and if you decide to change locations, or add in party planning to your list of things to do, then I’ll help any way that I can.”

“I’m lucky to have met you, Lee. I really am.”

“The feeling is mutual,” I responded. “Now, let’s get back to the kitchen. I have a lot of cooking to get done.”

We were just getting up from the couch when Charlotte entered the room. “Hey, Roxanne, if you’re up for it, I’d like to talk about my wedding plans and see if you really are interested in taking over for me.”

“I’d love to hear them.”

“Why don’t we sit in here where it’s quieter. I’ll go get my binder with all my information.”

“I’ll leave you girls to it.” I kissed Roxy again, winked at Charlotte, then headed back to the kitchen.

“Is Roxanne alright?” my mother asked quietly once I was back at the counter measuring ingredients for the sauce.

“She is. I wanted to talk to her privately about an idea I had.”

“Concerning the Valentine’s party?”

“Well, concerning her business. I asked her if she ever considered branching out. She has a competitor in Plattsville, and she is struggling to keep her business. I suggested she move out this way and start over while incorporating party planning into her business.”

“What did she say?” Bradley asked as he leaned over the counter to listen.

“She is going to consider it. She’s lived in Plattsville her whole life. She’s not sure she wants to move.” I began to stir the big pot in front of me to mix the ingredients.

“What do you think she should do?” Riley jumped into the conversation.

“It’s not my decision,” I told Ry. “I only gave her a suggestion.” I paused. “Although personally, I think she should do it.”

“But it would take her away from you,” my mother commented.

“It would also take her away from her family, and I don’t have a problem with that.”

My mother gasped. “Henley! Why would you say such a thing?”

“Her brother is an ass, and while I haven’t met her father, I’m already not a fan. From what I can tell, both of them think she is wasting her life doing what she’s doing. They are not in the least bit supportive of her and talk down to her constantly. I’ve heard it, and it pisses me off.”

“Well, that’s not very nice,” Bradley murmured as he glanced around. Probably comparing what I’d said about her family to ours, and finding it very lacking.

“No, it’s not,” I responded.

“She seems like a very nice young lady, Henley,” my mother stated.

“She is, Mom. I think if she helps you with the Valentine’s party, then she might find some more clients to help her get started out this way.”

“She just might,” Riley responded. “It’s not a bad idea. What is she doing now?”

“Rox and Charlotte are going over the plans for her wedding.”

“Speaking of which, I should go check on them.” Wes grinned as he headed toward the living room.

“Oh, that’s good,” my mother commented. “Poor Charlotte is so stressed with her new job. She wonders if she made the right choice.” She finished her comment after Wes left the room.

“I’m sorry to hear that,” I replied.
