“Yes.”

“I’m glad I came.”

“Charlotte said you ladies are going to run over to the country club.”

“We are. She wants to show me the layout and explain a few things that she was thinking.”

“Sounds like a great idea. Did you want me to come with you?”

“No, you have things to do here. I’ll be fine with Charlotte.”

“And me!” Riley called as she walked into the room. “I’m coming, too.”

Lee glanced at his sister. “Behave yourself, Ry.”

She looked at him like she was horrified. “What would you be implying, big brother?”

He chuckled. “Just watch the number of stories you tell her. I don’t want you to scare her off.”

She cracked up loudly. “Don’t worry, I have a feeling Roxy doesn’t get scared very easily.”

The two of them turned to me, and I cupped his cheek. “I think you're safe—for now.”

“For now.” He snickered. “Glad you put that in there.”

Riley said she’d grab my jacket and purse, and Lee kept staring at me as she left the room.

“What’s on your mind?”

“Nothing really. I’m just enjoying the fact that you’re here.” He took my hand and squeezed.

“I’m glad I came, and thank you for hooking me up with Charlotte and Wes.”

“I’m happy to help. Have you given any thought to what I suggested earlier?”

“About me moving here and starting over?” He nodded. “Not really. I mean, it has been spinning in the back of my mind, but I’m going to need to really consider it. I will have to think it through. It would be a huge change, Lee.”

“It would, but I think it might be a good change.”

Riley joined us just as Charlotte came back from the kitchen. “Okay, I’m gonna grab my coat, and we can go. I called the country club while I was in the kitchen to make sure we could get in to see it real quick. It’s perfect timing actually because they are setting up for another wedding reception that starts at four.”

“That is perfect,” I told her, and Lee helped me to my feet.

“Be careful, okay? There are some slick spots out there, so watch where you walk.”

“Yes, Mr. Paramedic,” I told him as I rolled my eyes.

He took my face in his hands. “I’m serious, be careful. I don’t want you to slip and tear those stitches while they are finally healing.”

“I’ll be careful, Lee.”

He kissed me again, and while I had never been one for public displays of affection, I didn’t mind with Riley and Charlotte looking on.

The three of us ladies said our goodbyes to the group in the kitchen and filed out the door. Riley took the back seat of Wes’ fancy SUV, and I got situated in the front seat beside Charlotte.

“How did you meet Wes?” I asked Charlotte as we drove.

She glanced my way. “I attacked him.”
