“Um, I think I’ll at least put on a bra and brush my hair and teeth.”

I grinned at her. “You’ll be the most dressed down there. Except for Hunt and Brad, who went home last night.” I dug around in my overnight bag for a clean t-shirt and pulled it over my head.

“Will they all be here for breakfast?”

“Yep, they will.” I glanced at my watch. “They should be here within the next thirty minutes if they aren’t here already. I’m going to go use the bathroom and then head downstairs. Is that okay?”

“Sure, I’ll be down in a few minutes.”

I winked at her and then let myself out, closing the door softly behind me in case Wes and Charlotte were still sleeping in the room across the hall. I was in luck, and no one was in the bathroom, so I did my business and then headed down to the kitchen.

Charlotte, Kayley, and my mom were at the table, steaming coffee mugs in front of them. “Is Roxy awake?” Charlotte asked as soon as she saw me.

“She is. She’ll be down in a few minutes. I thought maybe you would still be sleeping.”

“Yeah, right.” She laughed. “Marisol came to wake Wes up earlier so they could go feed the horses.”

I chuckled as I poured a cup of coffee. I started pulling things out of the fridge to prepare for breakfast as I listened to the women chatter. Charlotte’s phone began to ring just as Roxy joined us, and Charlotte smiled at her as she walked past her to answer the phone in the living room.

“Coffee?” I asked Roxy, and she nodded as she walked stiffly to the table.

“How are you feeling, Roxanne?” my mother asked as she got seated.

“Sore, but I’ll be okay.”

I set her mug on the table as Charlotte came back into the room and went to Roxy. “This is actually for you.” She held the phone out to Roxy, who looked surprised.

“Me? Who would call me on your phone?”

“It’s the lady from the country club.” She glanced at her phone. “It’s on mute so that she can’t hear us, but maybe she is calling to apologize for what happened to you yesterday.”

Roxy looked perplexed as she took the phone from Charlotte and walked into the living room. I saw her punch a button on the phone and then put it to her ear. “Hello?”

All of us stared after her, and Charlotte sat down. “That was weird.”

“What did she say?” Kayley asked.

“Well, she apologized to me for her rude behavior yesterday and said she needed to speak with Roxy. Said she was hoping I could put her in touch with her.”

“Did she say why?” I queried.

Charlotte shook her head. “I’m sure it was to apologize for the way she talked to us, or maybe it was to check on her after what happened yesterday.”

I stared at the hallway, wondering if I should check on her, but decided I should give her space. I’m sure she would share what the woman said when she returned.

A few minutes later, Kayley was helping me mix the dough for the biscuits when Roxanne came back in looking somewhat shell-shocked.

“Are you alright, honey?” my mother asked immediately as Roxy sank into her seat.

“Um, yeah.”

“What did she want?” Charlotte asked.

Roxanne glanced around the room, and her gaze landed on mine and stuck. “She offered me a job.”
