“Call me Roxanne, please.”

“Absolutely.” For a couple more minutes, we discussed some other details, and when I hung up, I sat there staring at my thigh. Under my cotton leggings was my injury. If it hadn’t been for that car crash, I wouldn’t be here. I’d be trying to figure out what to do next, but now, I had a future, a plan, and quite possibly a new family to go with it.

I returned to the kitchen, and everyone was staring at me. They all seemed concerned, but there was only one person who I was interested in seeing the response from. “She offered me a job.”

Lee looked shocked, and Charlotte grabbed my wrist. “Are you kidding?” she blurted.

“Yeah, she said she fired the other coordinator and needed someone immediately. She said she liked that I stood up for you yesterday, wants me to start next weekend.”

“What did you tell her?” Kayley asked, and my gaze cut to Lee for a moment.

“I told her I’d take the job.”

There was a lot of noise in the room as everyone began to ask me questions that I didn’t have answers for, and when Lee came to my side and took my hand, I got out of my chair.

“Excuse us, everyone. I need to speak to Roxy.”

We went back to the living room, and he sat beside me. “Is that what you want?”

“Well, I thought that I only wanted to do weddings, but you opened my eyes to doing events. Carol told me how many events they take care of and what my responsibilities would be, plus the salary. I’d be crazy to turn it down, Lee.”

“But are you sure? What about your own business?”

“I figured that I could take a little time to get to know people in the area. If things don’t work out there, then at least, I might have some other potential clients.”

“That’s true.”

I winced. “That means we aren’t going to be able to see each other very often.”

“No, you’re right, we won’t, but I want you to be happy, Roxy. I want you to be able to do something that you want to do. I think this will be good for you.”

“Yeah, I think it might be, but now I have to find a place to live and get all my stuff packed back home. That’s a lot to get done, and I don’t have a car.”

“What about staying here until you find a place?”

I eyed him funny. “Here? As in your parents’ house?”

“Yeah, I’m sure they would be fine with that. You could stay in my room for a couple weeks until you found the right place.”

“I don’t want to impose on them, Lee.”

“You’re kidding, right? You’ve met my parents, and if you don’t want to stay here, Hunt has an extra bedroom.” He frowned. “Although I’m not sure that’s a good idea.”

I laughed. “Why? You worried that I’ll change my mind about you and hook up with your brother?”

He tried to keep a straight face but couldn’t. “Yeah, while I might trust you, I wouldn’t trust him.”

“Oh, please.” I laughed and squeezed his hand. “I’m excited, Lee. I haven’t been this excited in a long time. I’ll speak to your mom and see if I can stay the week. I should be able to find a place in that amount of time, and I won’t need to move out of my townhouse until the end of February, so there is time to get that packed.”

“Then let’s go ask them.” He went to stand, and I pulled him back to the couch.

“Thank you.”

“For what?”

“For rescuing me. Not only helping me when I got hurt but for all of this. You have given me something that I never expected.”

He took my face in his hands. “You deserve it, and you’re welcome, Roxy.” The kiss was sweet and filled with promises. “Let’s go talk to my mom.”
