“Excuse me?” I whispered toward him. Did I hear that right?

“I would look at your datebook and see the people you were meeting with. I’d mention it in conversation.”

“Why? Roman, how could you do that to me?”

“Because I knew you were struggling, and I wanted you to have something better. I wanted you to have a solid career.”

“But it’s okay that Susan does what she does?”

“Not much I can say about that,” he stated.

“But you thought you could do that to me? Roman, I can’t believe you. I’m not even sure if I can ever forgive you for this. You ruined my dream.” I started to walk away, and he pulled me to a stop.

“Rox, wait. If I hadn’t done that, would you be here now? Would you have found Lee? Would you not have a job that you love and a new house?”

I glanced at Lee; he was waiting patiently. “I don’t know.”

“Look, I’m sorry, and if I could go back and undo what I did, I would in a heartbeat, but I can’t, Rox. I know you’re upset, but you have to forgive me.”

“Why? Why do I have to forgive you? After all that you did to ruin my business and my relationship, why should I forgive you?”

“Because we are family, Rox, and you’re going to be an aunt.”

Oh, that wasn’t fair. I frowned at him as Lee put his arm around my waist.

“I think you need to give her a little time, Roman.”

A noise behind us had us turning, and Pat, Dave, Hunt, and Riley joined us in the front entryway.

Hunt grinned. “We wanted to make sure that everything was alright.” He looked at me. “You’re gonna stick with my brother, or do I get a chance?”

I laughed, and it felt good as I wrapped my arm around Lee’s waist. “I think I’m gonna take a chance on your brother, but thanks for the offer, Hunt.”

We made introductions around the room, although they all knew Susan, which irked me slightly. Only slightly, and that fell away when Pat took me to the side as we rejoined the party and said that she’d never have let Susan stay at her house without Lee. It made me feel better, and I hugged her tightly.

For the rest of the night, we danced, talked, and had fun. My heart felt lighter than it had in a while, and as I danced with Lee, I studied my brother and Susan. They were chest to chest and gazing at one another like I imagined Lee and I did.

Lee explained to me about his earlier comment of being between jobs, and while it should have made me nervous that part of the reason he was moving here was for me, it didn’t. I was glad to know that he would be close by, and we could get back to planning our future.

Lee had also asked me in a roundabout way if maybe Roman’s kid was going to have a cousin around the same age, but I’d told him that my period had come and gone. Maybe a cousin would come along soon enough though.

At the end of the night, I hugged Susan and Roman, and while I told him I was angry with him, I did love him. He kissed my cheek and walked Susan to the car with his arm wrapped tightly around her.

Lee followed me back to my house, and after I had unlocked the door, he scooped me into his arms.

“What are you doing?” I laughed.

“I didn’t get to do this when you first moved in.”

“It’s too late now; you have to do that when you first arrive.”

He set my feet back on the floor, holding me firmly. “Is it too late to christen your bedroom?”

“No, but you might need to do some begging.”

A slow sexy smile spread over his face, and my core clenched. “I’ll get on my knees, but you’re going to be naked and bent over your bed again, then we’ll see who does the begging.”

I was glad he was holding me up because my knees went weak with anticipation. “Tell me something.” I ran my hands up his chest and over his shoulders.
