I nodded, the knot that had been in my stomach since I’d seen Lee by the door beginning to unravel. “So, you really aren’t with Susan?”

“No, absolutely not, Roxy. I love you, honey. I want you, only you, and I would never do something like that to disrespect you—never.”

“You promise?” I said softly.

His hand cupped my cheek. “I swear on my life, Roxanne.”

I went to him then, putting my lips back where they belonged, on his, as I wrapped my arms around his shoulders. I didn’t care that there were a hundred people around us. It was Valentine’s Day, and it was the day of love. I loved this man, and I wanted everyone to know.

Once we broke apart, I glanced toward the door. “Why are Roman and Susan here? Did you bring them in case I didn’t believe you?”

“Kind of.” His shoulders rose high and then slowly dropped. “There is more, Roxy, but your brother needs to tell you that. Come on, we can finish this dance later.”

He took my hand and led me off the dance floor, past my brother and Susan, and out to the lobby where it was quieter. Lee pulled me to his side, holding me tightly as my brother looked everywhere but at me.

It was Susan that spoke first. “I’m so sorry, Rox. I had no idea that Roman did that to you. If I had known, I would have told you the truth.”

I nodded to her and stared at my brother. “Why did you do that to me? You knew I cared about him.”

“Yeah, I did, and I screwed up. I didn’t want to lose you, Rox. Not like we lost—”

I stepped out of Lee’s grasp and went to stand in front of my brother. “I’m not Mom, and I’m not going to leave you, Roman. You’re my brother, and I love you, although I kind of hate you a little right now.”

He finally gave me his direct attention. “I’m sorry, Rox. I really am. I realized the day that I showed you the pictures how much I hurt you, and I should have told you then they were fake, but I couldn’t.”

“You should have. I’ve been miserable since then.”

He hung his head. “I’m sorry.” When he lifted his gaze, it went over my head to Lee. “I’m sorry to you, too. I really am. I see how much she cares about you, and I know you care about her. I’ll stay out of it.”

“Damn straight,” Susan commented, and I shot her a glance.

“Why are you here?” I asked as I turned to her.

She looked nervously at Roman and then took his arm. “Roman and I are together.”

“You came here together?”

She shook her head. “Yeah, we did, but we are together, together. In fact, we’re having a baby.”

I stumbled back, and luckily Lee was there to catch me. I stared at my brother. “You’re dating Susan?”

“Well, it’s more than that. We’re engaged.” She held up her hand, and my jaw dropped as I stared at the diamond ring on her finger.

“Since when?”

“Last night,” Roman replied. “I asked her to marry me last night.”

“And you’re really having a baby together?”

Roman nodded and put his arm around Susan. “Yeah, I’m gonna be a dad.”

“Holy shit! I think I need to sit down.”

“Wait,” Roman reached out for me as I started to walk away. “I need to tell you something else.”

“What? You’re having twins?” I asked wildly because what else could he possibly tell me after just dropping that bomb on me.

“No, or at least I don’t think we are,” he said as he glanced at Susan. He stood in front of me and sighed. “I’m the one that told Susan about all your clients.”
