“You mean, as in be a couple?”

“Yeah, I guess.”

“You guess?” She laughed. “Riley, when are you going to wake up and see how much you care about him.”

“Mom, stop. I do care about him, but I don’t know if I feel enough to base a relationship off of—or get married for. I don’t want to jump into something. I have a lot to think about, and Ethan has weeks more of class to focus on. When he gets back, we’ll figure something out, but I told him I would try.”

“Well, that’s the best that you can do.”

“When did you know that you were with child?” my father asked as he took a seat.

“About five weeks ago.”

“And you just told Ethan about it this weekend?”

“Actually, I didn’t tell him. Henley did.”

“So your brother knew before Ethan? That doesn’t seem right.”

“Hen heard something Roxy said and wouldn’t let it go until I told him. I had no idea he was going to hit Ethan.”

“Your brother is protective. I’m sure Ethan could understand him being upset,” my mother said.

“Yes, he never said anything about it to me.”

“Well, I’m glad it’s out now, and you are taking care of yourself.”

“I am, Mom. I eat as well as I can, take my vitamins. I’m doing my yoga, and I haven’t had a drink since I found out.”

“Good. When will Ethan be back?”

“I don’t know, really. Probably seven, eight weeks. We didn’t talk about it.”

“What are you going to do about Joe?”

“Oh, we broke up. He’s already seeing someone else.”

“Oh, well, that’s good for him. He was a nice man. I liked him, not for you, though. I thought he was more Kayley’s type.”

I thought about that for a moment and shrugged. “Yeah, maybe.”

My mom squeezed my hand. “Everything is happening as it is meant to be.”

“I guess so.”

It was seven o’clock, and I was curled up on the couch reading when my cellphone rang, and I saw it was Ethan. I smiled as I answered it. “I guess you made it to Georgia alright.”

“I did. Hey, I want to make this a video call. Hold on a second.” I waited for him to switch it, and I connected to the video. “Ah, there you are. A sight for sore eyes.”

I rolled mine at him, and he laughed. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m fine. Do not go worrying about me every second of the day. You know I’m tough.”

“I do know that. Let me see your stomach.”

“What?” I laughed, “Why?”
