“Kind of.”

“You can call me Nola. Some of my friends do because they don’t like Nolan.”

“What do you want me to call you?”

She stared at me, another sexy smile slipping over her lips before she leaned forward, almost touching her mouth to mine. I was helpless to move as she stood there. A moment later, she shifted to the side toward my ear and whispered, “You can call me anything, as long as you whisper it into my ear.”

She giggled again and brushed past me down the stairs. I was not wrong; she was most definitely flirting with me. I might have been out of the game for a while, but I wasn’t an idiot.

Before I could get down the stairs, she disappeared into the kitchen, and I made my way slowly as I digested what she’d said. If she hadn’t run away, I might have leaned forward and said something softly to her. Why, I didn’t know, but it seemed like the right thing to do.

When I entered the kitchen, Cameron was in there with Kayley. “Hey, Brad, you getting the official tour?”

Nolan laughed. “He was getting the tour of this needs to happen and that needs to happen.”

“It’s a great house,” I commented. “Once you get it done, it will be something.”

“Yes, it will be.”

“When did you want me to help you with the kitchen design?” I refrained from looking toward my sister because I knew she’d have a smug smile on her lips.

“Um, would you be available tomorrow late afternoon? We have soccer games in the morning, and I have a few errands to run after that.”

“Yeah, I can do that. I’ll just make sure my kids are taken care of.”

“I’m sure Becky would be happy to keep them busy,” Kayley offered.

“Let me see what they have planned. Can I give you a call later and confirm?”

“Is that your way of asking for my phone number?”

I laughed. “No, but having it would be a good idea.”

“Alright,” she commented and walked to the counter to write it down. She could have given it to me directly to put it in my phone, but whatever.

She folded the piece of paper and handed it to me, smiling sweetly. “Here you go. I’ll see you tomorrow. Thanks for all your help, Brad.”

“You’re welcome.” For two seconds, we stared at one another, and something I didn’t understand passed between us.

“Thanks, Brad,” Kayley said, and when I looked at her, I knew what she was thinking.

“See you later, Kay, Cam.” I turned on my heel and hightailed it out of there. I wasn’t in my truck when I got a message from my sister.

I was right! One bat of those lashes, and you’re a goner!

I didn’t bother to reply to her. I kind of hated that she was right. So, I had a soft spot for women who were petite and full of positive energy. It didn’t hurt that she loved to work with her hands and had so many of the same ideas that I would have had for the place.

As I pulled away, I almost wished that I had thought of looking into buying the property. It really would have made an excellent investment and been something I could slowly work on over the years. Plus, the property itself was incredible.

I thought again of the swings and fireplace design that I had shown her. My current backyard wasn’t big enough for that, and my parents' backyard wasn’t set up for something that shape or size, but Nolan’s yard would have been perfect.

Well, I hoped that she decided to do something like that, maybe on a smaller scale. I would be happy to help her build it so that I could see it done. Perhaps I’d even get a chance to sit on one of the swings and enjoy a fire with her.

I shook my head at myself. She might have been flirting with me, but that didn’t mean anything. For all I knew, she might flirt with everyone. That could just be the kind of person she was. Or perhaps she was flirting with me to get my help on her home. I nodded to myself as I stopped at the stop sign.

That’s what she was doing. Kayley probably told her that if she flirted with me, I’d help her out. It kind of made me not want to help, but remembering the way she had stared at me on the stairs and whispered in my ear, made me wonder.

It wasn’t until I was home that I unfolded the piece of paper she had given me. It not only included her number but a short note.
