“So. It will be fun.”

Emmy wasn’t looking at us, but I knew she was listening as she kneeled on the porch.

“Emmy, would it be okay if we stay at your house too? Could Tyler, Tonya, and I sleep at your house with you?”

Emmy nodded quickly and asked. “Can I bring the babies?”

“You mean the stuffed animals?”

My mother was behind me and stepped in. “Emmy, you can take those home with you and keep them until your things arrive from the movers. Okay?”

“Okay.”

“Alright, then let’s put them all back into the bucket so you can take them home.”

“Tyler, why don’t you help her put them in the bucket.”

“No!” Emmy said forcefully. “He won’t do it right. I will do it. They have to be right.”

Tyler pursed his lips and frowned, but then as if a light went off in his head, he grinned. “Emmy, how about I hand them to you one at a time, and you put them in the bucket the right way?”

She thought about that for a second as she shifted from foot to foot. “Okay.”

I patted Tyler’s shoulder. “Thank you, Ty.”

“Sure, Dad.”

I went to help clean up a few other things while they tackled that and put Tonya in charge of putting away the games and toys on the side of the house. Forty-five minutes later, we loaded into my truck and went toward my house.

Emmy didn’t want to come into our house while we got our stuff, but she sat on the front porch swing with two Beanie Babies from the bucket. Fifteen minutes later, we were on our way to her house.

Kayley had given me the key to get in, and after I turned on the foyer light, I stood in awe. The entryway was incredible with the new stone wall, and the floor shone with a gloss that would last for years.

“Wow!” Tonya said as she looked around.

Emmy turned to Tyler. “Do you want to see where I sleep?”

“Sure,” he replied, and Tonya and Tyler followed behind her up the stairs with their stuff. I carried the plastic container up the stairs and into Nolan’s room where they had disappeared. An oversized air mattress was in the middle of the room.

The minute I set the container down, Emmy went to open it. “Wait, before you open this, you need to take a bath and put your pajamas on.”

“A shower,” she interjected.

“Okay, then a shower, but you need to do that before you get these out.”

She stared at me for a moment and then frowned. “But Lauren isn’t here to help me.”

“I can help you,” Tonya replied immediately.

“You sure, Tonya?”

“Yeah.” She walked to the bathroom door. “Have you seen this shower? It’s big enough for both of us. It even has two sprayers.”

I walked to the door and scanned the interior. Wow. Milton had outdone himself in this room. It was incredible. The shower had been opened up, and you could walk in from the left or right. In the center was a piece of glass that went from top to bottom to keep the spray from going everywhere. Two large shower heads hung from the ceiling, and the entire area was done in shades of gray and white.

The toilet was raised higher, and the vanity now had two sinks that looked like large fancy bowls and had beautiful faucets. The lighting over the vanity was bright and warm, and there was a oversized framed mirror over the counter.

I could totally see myself using this.
