“Alright, ladies, you two get a shower. Tyler, let’s go out, and you can take one next.”

“He can use the other bathroom,” Emmy said flatly.

“Is that one working?” I asked, and she nodded, then turned her back on me and went to her suitcase.

“Alright, Ty, let’s go look at the other bathroom.”

On our way, I peeked into each room. I knew instantly which ones were taken by the girls as they had been painted. The other two were still the old dingy white.

While a little bigger, the bathroom was not as impressive as the other one, but it was still beautiful with beiges, browns, and creams in the tile of the shower. This one still had a bathtub, and the vanity had two sinks in here too, but not fancy ones.

I left Tyler there and went down to look at the first floor. I stood in the kitchen and was surprised to see that Nolan had opted for the cabinets I had suggested and not what she had initially chosen. It looked fantastic. Especially with the walls painted a warm honey color with a cocoa-brown trim. The color carried over into the family room, and the floors looked incredible with it all.

I ran my hands over the countertop; that was one thing I hadn’t had any input on, but man, did I love the warm-tone granite piece she had chosen. I stood back, taking it all in and imagining Nolan hustling about to get a meal ready. I didn’t mean to, but it was easy to add all four kids and me to that image.

A knock on the front door brought me out of my little fantasy, and I went to find Hunt at the front door. “What are you doing here?”

“I know Nolan doesn’t have her furniture yet, so I brought you one of our extra cots. It’s not great, but it’s better than the hard floor, trust me.”

“Thanks, man. I appreciate it.”

“How are things going? Emmy doing alright?”

“Yeah, she and Tonya are taking a shower in Lauren’s bathroom, and Tyler is in the other bathroom.”

“Can I see the kitchen? Daniella said it was supposed to be awesome.”

“Yeah, sure.”

I showed him back, and he looked around the place, letting out a whistle of appreciation. “You know, I was never in this house, but I always imagined it was pretty nice inside.”

“This place was a wreck when she first bought it. She had mice and snakes, and all the plumbing was rusted and corroded. She had to have all that replaced and the electricity rewired, and we knocked this wall out here to open this up.”

“You helped with the kitchen design, didn’t you?”

I nodded. “Yeah. I did. It turned out better than I could have hoped for.”

Hunt grinned at me. “Can you see yourself here?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Can you see yourself living here with her?”

“That’s not an option, Huntley.”

“But if it were, could you see it?”

“I’m not going to lie and say that I’m not interested in something permanent with Nolan, but I’m not going to move myself into her house.”

“I didn’t say that. I was just wondering if you could see yourself here with her and her kids.”

I brushed a hand over my cheek and along my beard. “Yeah. I can. Before you got here, I was picturing all of us here in the kitchen.”

“Then don’t let go of that picture. Nolan is fantastic. I had a chance to talk to her today, and she’s great. She also couldn’t keep her eyes off you. No matter where you were, she knew, and she constantly turned to see if you had moved.”

“No, she didn’t.”

“Yeah, man, she did.”
