“Okay.” She whispered.

I didn’t hesitate or give her a chance to back out. I descended slowly on her, touching our lips together tenderly. It was brief, too brief, but I didn’t want to push her. One look into her eyes and I was ready to do it again, but I backed up and let her go.

“Give me your cellphone.” I held my hand out while she dug around in her purse, unlocked it, and handed it to me. I typed my phone number into her contacts. “Text me when you get home to let me know you arrived safely.”

“Okay,” She said breathlessly, and I loved that I had done that to her.

I was about to step away when the urge to kiss her again struck me out of nowhere. I took her face in my hands, staring down at her as if I needed to memorize every detail of her to live. Her hands landed on my sides, and I pressed my lips into hers again. This time, it wasn’t a tender kiss, but one full of promises. I tilted my head to the side as she stepped closer to me and her hands slid up my back to my shoulder blades, and she fisted my shirt to hold onto me.

Damn, I had never wanted a woman to hold on so tightly in my life. The kiss was passionate, and she had opened herself up to me, a gift I wasn’t sure I would receive. I let go of her face and wrapped her tightly in my arms. I could kiss this woman forever I thought momentarily before I began to end the kiss.

I rested my forehead on hers, trying to calm myself before I gave her one last chaste kiss on her brow and stepped back. “Sorry I couldn’t help myself. Text me when you get home, Charlotte.”

She nodded, her face flushed, her eyes bright as I turned and walked away. I wondered if I looked as shell shocked as she did. When I reached my car, she was just opening her door, and I waved to her and got into my Volvo SUV.

I had just started my car when my cellphone began to ring. I gave my car a moment to connect to my phone and then answered. “Hey, Brad, what’s going on?”

“Hey, Wes, you busy?” My oldest brother asked.

“Nope, just got into my car to head home. Everything alright?”

“Oh, yeah, everything is good. I wanted to remind you of Tonya’s birthday party. It’s not this next weekend, but the one after that. Are you going to be able to make it?”

“I already took the weekend off so I could come out and enjoy the weekend.”

“Wow, you took a whole two days off for us? Mom and Dad will be impressed.”

“Very funny.” I paused, “Hey, would you mind if I brought a friend?”

He grew quiet, “Wait, are you dating someone?”

I laughed, “I’m not sure what I’m doing right now, Brad, but yeah, maybe I might be.”

He chuckled, “Well, damn. I can’t remember the last time you even thought of bringing someone home with you.”

“Well, I might not, it was just a spur of the moment thought, and I haven’t spoken to them about it yet.”

“Ah, okay. Well, let me know if you do. I’ll make sure Mom knows.”

“Brad, it would be two extra at the party,” I told him.

“Two? What are you dating twins and aren’t sure which one to choose?”

I burst out laughing, “No, not twins, she has a daughter.”

“Aw, shit, man.” He got quiet for a moment, “I hope they come. It’s about time you have something in your life besides work.”

“Thanks, Brad, I’ll let you know.” I disconnected the call and then used the remainder of the ride home to figure out how I could encourage Charlotte to come away with me for the weekend.
