“What is his other power?”Clayton queried.“You said he had more than one.”
Hugh sighed, glared at me for a second, and then shifted his focus to Clayton.“I see what’s in your mind, not words, but pictures of what you are thinking about.I guess it all ties in since I see your thoughts through your eyes.”
“And you have to share blood for that?”
“For the second part, I have to share blood, but I can see most people’s thoughts when they are close by, and I am trying.”He shifted to glare at Zander.“So watch it.”
Zander put his hands up.“I am well aware that she is your mate, Hugh.”
“As long as we are clear.”
I wanted to snap at them both to cut the shit out, but I wouldn’t.Not now.Right now, I wanted their word and their bond.
“Whatever you need from me, Kristin, I will give you.You have my vow that I will help in any way,” Zander replied earnestly.
I nodded to him and then shifted to look at Gabriel and Olivia.“Kris, you know we have always been on your side.We tried to get to Portage so that we could help you get him.”
“I am aware that was the original plan,” I stated.“But I didn’t know if things had changed.”
“What do you mean, the original plan?”Olivia asked, her eyes wide as she looked between her mate and me.
“Olivia, at the time, you were acting up and couldn’t control your impulses.I wasn’t sure what to do with that, so Gabe suggested that you two leave, and he was going to try and get closer to Portage.”
“You mean, that whole thing about being banished was planned, and I didn’t know about it?”
“Yes.”
She spun on Gabe.“You knew about it?”
“Yes, and I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, but if I had, someone might have seen it in your head.”
She crossed her arms over her chest and sulked in her chair.“I can’t believe the two of you planned that.I thought I had lost my best friend forever.”
“Well, you didn’t.Gabe kept me updated from time to time with information.I knew where you guys were and what you were doing.”
“It kind of worked,” Zander said.“I mean, Gabe did get close to Joseph, even though Joseph was using him to mess with me.”
“It all worked out in the end,” I answered.
“It did,” Gabe agreed.
“So, do I have your oath?”I looked between Gabe and Olivia again.
“Yes, but no more plans behind my back.I don’t want to be used that way again,” Olivia demanded.“You know I will do anything for you, so just ask next time.Don’t make me feel like a loser.”
I laughed.“You are far from a loser, Olivia.”
“What is the new plan going to be?”Gabe asked as he leaned forward.
“I’m going to have to go back on something that I had previously ordered not to be done before.”
Zander looked confused.“What is that?”
I studied Olivia for a long moment before I shifted to him.“We are going to start turning humans again.”
“What?”Clayton barked.“You were adamant about not doing that.”
“I know, but times are changing, and we are going to need more elemental controls in our corner.”
