He chuckled.“Yeah, once I started, I couldn’t stop.I just finished them before I reached out to you.”
“Alright, well then, I guess I’ll go to my office, take care of what I need to, and then start reading.”
He nodded and carried the box to the door.“Alex knew we’d be together again.”
“Does he say that?”
“Yeah, he said that we were destined to be together and that we’d be able to heal the breed and make it strong again.”
I smiled tenderly.“He was a softy.Much more romantic than people knew.”
“I think it’s the truth, Kristin.I know that you’re with Hugh, and I’m willing to wait, but once your child is born—”
He left it there and didn’t finish the sentence.He didn’t need to.I knew what he was thinking.It wasn’t far off from what I had considered many times over the last couple of months.
“Let’s just wait and see, shall we?”
He nodded and opened the door, handing the box to Isaac.“I’ll talk to you later.”
“Thanks for letting me know about this.”
“You’re welcome.”
Zander and I stared at one another, and I was tempted to lean forward and brush my lips over his cheek, but that would never be enough.He was right; we were destined to be together, but I couldn’t just walk away from Hugh the moment our daughter was born.I owed him more than that.
Or did I?
Was he going to split the second the doors were open and rush to Angelina’s side?It wasn’t something that I could think about now.I would worry about that later.
Right now, I needed to get my work done so I could read through Alex’s journals.Why hadn’t I read them before I gave them to Garrett?What did Garrett think about having not one other brother but two?
I pondered that as I headed to my office.I knew that Garrett would never challenge my position, and neither would Zander, but I had no clue about this other person.What if he learned that he was Alex’s son and could lay claim to the master position?Would he want the responsibility?Could he handle it?
Isaac set the box on the floor behind my desk and then said he would get me coffee.I had tried to tell him before that he didn’t need to do that, but he said it was part of his duties.I didn’t fight him on it because it seemed to make him happy.
An hour later, I had finished what needed to be done and was sitting back with the first journal, having told Isaac that I was not to be interrupted by anyone when I felt my mate approaching, and he seemed rather upset.
Well, shit!Was this because of my meeting with Zander this morning?I heard him argue with Isaac outside, and I could imagine Isaac blocking his way.
“It’s okay, Isaac, you can let him in.”
A moment later, the door burst open, and Hugh came in red-faced, his eyes wild.I put my hand up before he could speak.“You do not have to get so bent out of shape because I was talking to Zander.It was about business.”
“Zander?What are you talking about?”
I hiked a brow and set aside the journal.“Okay, so if it isn’t Zander, what has your panties in a twist?You look like you are about to blow your stack, Hugh.”
“I don’t give a fuck about Zander!What I care about is that the woman I love just mated another man!”
I blinked a few times.Obviously, I was not the woman that he loved, and he was referring to my sister.“What are you talking about?”
“Angelina just mated to someone else.Someone strong.”
“How do you know this?”
“Because I was outside checking on her, and I felt it.I felt our bond almost completely disappear.I can’t see through her eyes anymore!”he shouted distraughtly.
“Alright, first of all, calm the hell down, Hugh!If Angelina bonded to someone else, then that’s good.”
