“I didn’t say bond.I said mated!”he yelled.
I ignored him and continued.“She wouldn’t bond, ormate, to someone who wasn’t strong, or if she didn’t think that it was a good idea.You might care about her, but you don’t know her as well as I do.Angelina does not do anything unless it will help her in some way.”
“What about me?”he screamed.
I almost laughed but forced myself to hold it in.“What about you?You act like your toy was just taken away from you.You are here, safe, and mated to me, by the way.”
“And you know that the minute that child is born, you are going to cast me aside and be with Zander,” he tossed my way.“That’s probably what you were doing with him earlier today when you had your so-called business meeting.”
I got slowly to my feet and walked around the desk.“You will watch how you talk to me, Hugh.”
“I will say whatever the fuck I want to you, Kris.”
I pulled my power toward me, and with one hand, pushed out.His body flew back against the wall like a rag doll.Instead of bouncing to the ground, he remained held against the wall with my power.I felt it burning under my skin as the door flew open, and Isaac stood there wide-eyed, preparing to jump in if need be.
“You will watch your tongue, Hugh McMurphy.I am well aware that you care about my sister over me and that you are only with me because of your sense of responsibility to this child.If I could release you early, I would!Trust me.I’m tired of your sniveling moody attitude.If Lena could see you now, she’d laugh and tell you to get lost.This is not how you go about getting the woman you love.You donotcome in here and scream at me or accuse me of things that you know nothing about.Do.You.Understand.Me?”
He was angry, but after a moment, he nodded.I held him in place for another few seconds.“Good.”I released him and then turned away, shaking my head.“I’m sorry that she did that to you, Hugh.I truly am.Do you know anything about this other person?Were you able to get anything from her before you lost contact with her?”
“All I know is the guy’s name is Corbin.”
I twirled around, my head almost dizzy.“What did you say?”
“I said the guy’s name is Corbin.Why?Do you know him?”
Suddenly, I started to laugh, and then I kept on laughing until I couldn’t stand anymore and slipped to the ground to lean against my desk.I laughed so hard tears ran down my cheeks, and the whole time Hugh stood over me, gawking and asking what the hell was so funny.
It wasn’t until a few more people arrived in my office to see what was going on, one of them being Zander, that I tried to get control of myself.I saw Zander looking at Isaac, who shrugged, and then I tried to talk.“She’s mated—” I put my hands over my face and laughed again for a moment.I think part of me was laughing so that I didn’t start bawling.
“She’s mated?Who is mated?”Clayton asked as he stood beside Zander.
“Angelina’s mated to someone,” I heard Hugh say gruffly as I continued to sit on the floor and laugh for some god only knows reason.I just couldn’t help myself.
“What?”Zander barked.“Who did she mate?”
“I don’t know who he was,” Hugh growled.
“Why is she laughing?”Clayton asked as I noticed Garrett behind him.
I was still on the floor, wiping my tears off my cheeks as I tried to stop the uncontrollable hysterics.
“I have no clue.I told her the guy’s name; it was the only thing I picked up on before I lost contact with Angelina altogether, and she started laughing like a fucking hyena.”
“What was the name?”Clayton asked.
“Corbin.”
I was trying to gain control of myself as Zander, Clayton, and Garrett all glanced at one another.A moment later, the three of them started to chuckle, and it quickly snowballed until they were laughing almost as hard as I was.
Hugh, now furious, threw his hands in the air as he stomped out of the room.“Well, fuck all of you!I’m glad you all find this so damn funny!”
And that just made us all laugh even harder.
