It took us a while to calm ourselves, and a few other people had come in and tried to figure out what was going on, but after a word to Isaac that I would explain later, we closed the door and took seats around my office.
“What are the odds that your sister would find Alex’s other son?”Clayton asked our group.
“Leave it to my sister to findthatneedle in a haystack.”I glanced at the men.“Did Alex know he was a reborn?”
“Not that he mentioned,” Garrett responded.
“I didn’t read anything like that in the journals,” Zander stated.
For a moment, we were quiet.“Hugh was a little pissed,” Clayton said cautiously.
I reached out to find what kind of mindset he was now in and found him screwing Novah six ways to Sunday through the back door.I fought not to react, and as quickly as I slipped in, I slipped back out.“Yeah, well, I am done worrying about Hugh.He’s proven that he can’t be relied on and where his allegiance is.”
It was my son that asked, “What are you going to do?You need him for a little while longer.”
I sighed.“I don’t know.I do need him around for a couple of months, but it’s going to be tense between us.”I sighed.“Has anyone ever tried to use bagged blood from the father instead of from the vein?”
Clayton rubbed the side of his face.“I don’t know.What are you thinking?”
“I think that if that worked, he could store his blood, and I could let him leave.”
“Leave?”Zander looked confused.“But this place is locked down for what, five more months.”
I spiked a brow.“Do you honestly think that Alex would have designed this compound without a back way out or an override?”
“There is an override?”Garrett asked quickly.
I nodded.“Yes, but no one knows how to do it.Only me and Rane are aware it exists.”
“You mean”—Clayton leaned forward—“we could open the doors and go out?”
“We could, but why would we right now?”I asked.
“Kristin, the breed needs our help.”
“I am aware of that, Zander, but I can’t protect the people here in my condition.Not right now.Once the baby is born, then I will consider opening the doors and going out to take a stand.”
“I have to agree with her,” Garrett said to us.“I don’t think you should chance it while you are still pregnant.Once she is born, Isaac can watch over her while we deal with the world.”
I winked at my son.“And that is why you will make a great master one day.You think ahead.”
“Yeah, about that,” he said slowly and looked at Zander pointedly.
“Why are you looking at me?”Zander barked out the question.
“Well, I don’t know.Maybe because you are a lot older than me, and you have the experience.I’m not even transitioned yet.”
“Yeah, well, I am more concerned with what Corbin would do if he found out he was Alex’s son.”
“The way I see it,” Garrett began, “is that Zander was Julian.Julian was in line for the position.Yeah, he gave it to my father, but he is the rightful heir to the position.”
“Do you all expect me to die anytime soon?”I questioned the group.
Garrett put his hand up.“No, that’s not what I’m saying.I’m saying that he has the right to be by your side, and should anything happen to you, he should take over until I have had enough time to prepare myself.”
