Kristin suddenly turned and walked out of the room, Isaac hot on her heels.I almost followed but didn’t.Not at first.A few minutes later, I could no longer listen to what was being said.It made me sick.“Someone let me know if they say or show anything about Lena.”

I left the room and heard something shatter down the hallway.I followed the sound and found Kristin in a rare frame of mind.Isaac stood at the door, unsure what to do.She was smashing things in her office, and she was about to grab the frame off the wall that she coveted when I flashed to her side and grabbed hold of her.

“Stop!Kristin, stop!”

“She was out there because of me!She might be dead now, and I’m to blame! All of this is my fucking fault!”she screamed, and then she began to cry as her legs gave out.I lifted her and carried her to the sofa, where I sat with her over my lap.

“Shh, this isn’t your fault.Angelina chose to leave. It’s not your fault that the humans are fucking evil, sadistic scum.”

“How can you not blame me?You love her!We might have lost her forever!”

“Shh, relax, Kristin. You are right. If anyone could make it out, it’s your sister.”God, I prayed I was right.

She laid her head on my shoulder and sobbed.A few minutes later, Zander arrived at the door. His gaze went from me to around the room.

“She got upset,” Isaac said to Zander in a low tone.Zander closed his eyes and came to stand in front of us.

“Kris?”

She lifted her head, her eyes swollen, her face flushed.I grabbed a tissue off the side table and handed it to her.She slipped off my lap, and I stood.“Maybe you should stay with her.I need to go see something.”

Zander nodded, and I walked to the door.At the doorframe, I paused and looked back as she curled her body around his and cried quietly.I had never seen her this emotional.“Isaac, close the door and do not let anyone in to see her until Zander says that it is okay.”

Zander and I shared a look, and I nodded and left.I ran up the stairs and out to the small balcony. At the railing, I reached out as hard as I could to see if I could feel her.

“Come on, please, just give me something!”I pushed harder, and just as I was about to give up, I felt something.Just a blip of feeling, but I knew it was Angelina, and I bowed my head and wept.

It had been almost two weeks since that night, and every night since, I had come up here for hours to see if I could feel her.I was never able to after that, but I had hope that she was still living.Only another four and a half months and I could go in search of her.

The door behind me opened, and Kristin stepped out.“I thought I would find you here. Can you feel anything?”

I shook my head.“No, not since that first night. Can you?”

“I haven’t tried, but I can.”

“You haven’t tried?Why not?”I demanded.

She smiled tenderly.“I was afraid that what you felt wasn’t real or from her.I didn’t want to destroy your hope.”

I hung my head momentarily.“I guess that makes sense. Can you try now?”

She nodded and put her hands on the railing, closing her eyes and breathing deeply. After a moment, she smiled.“She’s alive, Hugh.”

“She is?You are sure?”

“Yes, she is alive.I can feel her.She is alive and powerful—very powerful.”

I wasn’t sure what to say about that since her mate was probably the one that made her that way.

Kristin turned to me.“And she’s not that far away.”

“What?”

“She’s maybe a couple of hours away.”

“How can you tell that?”

“Remember the night I ran away and showed up at your apartment? She felt me because of our bond.I can feel her now and know the general area where she is.The good news is she is alive, Hugh. You can go to her now.”
