I laughed.“Yeah, in what, like just under five months?”
She shook her head.“No, you can go now.”
“What?The doors are locked, Kristin.No one can get out.”
She glanced toward the door to make sure it was closed.“There is a secret passage built into the compound.I can get you out, and you can go to her.”
“Why didn’t you tell me about this sooner?”I was suddenly angry.“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me about this.”
“I didn’t tell you because I needed you here.”She put her hand over her stomach.“We needed you.”
“Well, you still do for what, another six weeks or so?”
She shook her head.“No.I don’t.I tested something a couple of weeks ago, and it seems to be working.Have you noticed that I haven’t asked you to come to feed me?”
“Yeah, I guess.”
“Well, don’t get upset, but we realized that Zander’s blood is strong due to his bloodline, and our child gets what it needs from his blood.”
My jaw dropped.“Zander has been feeding you?Feeding my child?For how fucking long?”
She stared me straight in the eye, almost daring me not to wring her neck.“Since the night of the attack in Detroit.”
My body vibrated with anger.“How could you allow him to feed my child?”
“Calm yourself, Hugh.I will not tolerate your insolence right now.It’s not like you wanted to participate actively in feeding.You didn’t even realize it had been two weeks since I had fed from you, Hugh.”
I wasn’t sure if I should be furious or delighted, so I remained silent as I waited for her to continue.
“Because Zander can feed the baby and me, you are free to leave.I will allow you to break your oath to me and locate my sister.”
I could leave?Just like that?“But are you sure our baby is going to be alright?”
“Yes, she is thriving.Isaac watches over her carefully and says she is doing well, maybe even better than before.”
I lifted my chin.“Are you saying there is something wrong with my blood?”
“No, I’m saying that Zander’s blood is powerful, ancient, and probably the strongest blood that she could have.”She grew quiet as she watched me.“If you wish to find my sister, I will release you from our mating.”
“You would do that?”
“For her, for you, yes, I would.”
“Are you sure, Kristin?”
She took my face in her hands.“I am sure.”
“Can you tell me where she is?”
“Yes, I can have someone search that area and find out what is there.We can get you close enough that you can probably feel her again.”
“When can I go?”
“It would be best to go tomorrow night, but we need to sneak you out, and to do that, I’m going to need you to cause a public scene.”
“Why?”
“So that I can publicly punish you and confine you.Then we can sneak you out, and no one will wonder where you are.”
