I laughed slightly.“Oh, yes, I do.I can’t wait to show you what I can do now.”
“I look forward to it.I need to rest now.I’m having trouble healing.”
“Rest, Hugh.We will be together soon, and we will figure it all out, but before I let you go, are you sure my sister is alright?”
“She is, and as soon as she can come, she will.”
“Okay, rest.”
It had been days since then, and Hugh and I had a couple of short conversations, but I could tell that he was in tremendous pain.Most of the time, he wanted to listen to me talk.He said that the sound of my voice calmed him and helped him heal.I wasn’t sure I could deal with this for weeks, maybe months before my sister arrived, but as we waited, I told him all about the last several months.
I was already forming a plan of how I could rescue Hugh in the back of my mind.I would have to go behind Corbin’s and Gideon’s backs, but I would do what I had to.
This evening, Corbin had been acting strange and seemed overly alert, as if he were waiting for something to happen.I was preparing to shower and get dressed when he excused himself quickly without an explanation.I would have to question him at mealtime because I knew he was up to something.
That something showed itself halfway through my shower, and it was all I could do to rinse the conditioner from my hair and put on clothes.Kristin was here!Had Corbin somehow known she was coming?
Once I was presentable enough, I flashed down the stairs to the main floor and into the lounge where Kristin and Zander were sitting across from Portage, eating dinner like long-lost friends.
Kristin’s head popped up the moment I entered, and she was on her feet and turning toward me.Instead of flashing to her, I took my time walking.We stared at one another for a long moment, and then I looked down at her stomach.She smiled.“You’re an aunt again.”
I jumped forward and threw my arms around her.“And she is well?”
“Briella is very well.”
“Briella.I love it.”
We pulled apart, and she shifted toward the table.“Angelina will be joining us.”
“By all means.Does she wish to bring her mate over?”
“No,” I started to say, but Kristin smiled and touched my arm.Under her skin, I felt a power that I had never felt before and found myself slightly in awe of it.I glanced at Zander, who winked.
“Of course, if he is mated to my sister, he holds a position in my court.”
As Corbin joined us, I spoke to Kris again.“Are you mated to Zander?”
“Yes.”
“Holy shit!I have so much to catch up on.”
Kristin laughed into my head as we all were seated.“That goes both ways, sister with a mate.Please tell me he is reborn.”
“Would I mate with someone who wasn’t?”
“If you could get away with it.”Kristin chuckled and then smiled at Corbin.
Corbin bowed his head to my sister.“Mistress, it is an honor to meet you officially.”
“And you as well.This is Zander Armstrong.I think you two are going to get along rather well with one another.”
“Armstrong?”Both Portage and I echoed immediately.
Kristin raised her brows.“Oh, yes, you don’t know.Well, we came across some journals of Alex’s, and well, it turns out that the child you kidnapped, Joseph, was a child of your very brother’s.Were you aware of that?”
“There is no way,” he said, looking shocked.
“Yes, but there is.Zander was indeed reborn of Alex’s line.Hence, he is an Armstrong and has changed his name to reflect that.”
