Joseph laughed slightly and shook his head.“Will wonders never cease?”
“No, I don’t think they will,” Kristin said and stared at Corbin for a moment.
Okay, so what was up with that?
“Angelina can tell you just how hospitable I have been.Isn’t that correct?”Portage said to my sister.
“Oh, yes, a real gentleman, except for what you are doing to Hugh!”I spat over the table.
“You know why that was done.”
“Yes, I believe we all know why that was done,” Kristin stated.“To get my attention.Why did you want me here?”
He frowned.“I would much prefer not to discuss business at the dinner table.Perhaps we can table this discussion until we have finished and retire to my conference room.”
I could tell Kristin didn’t like that answer, but she wasn’t going to argue right now.“I would be happy to speak with you once you have released Hugh.”
He stared at her for a long moment.“Fine.Once we eat, I will have him released.”
Kristin nodded and then picked up her fork and knife to cut a piece from her steak.That is about the same time a server brought two more plates and set them down in front of Corbin and me.
This whole thing was making me a nervous wreck.Why didn’t Kristin demand that Portage release Hugh immediately?Why didn’t she strike him down, take his head off?
Kristin glanced at me, then my plate, and like a good girl, I picked up my utensils and cut a piece of meat.She was here.She should have demanded that he be freed.Instead, she was sitting her dining with her nemesis.Had pregnancy made her soft?
Kristin gave me a droll look as if she had heard what I had just been thinking.I locked my mind down tighter as Zander chuckled.Damn, had both of them been listening to my mental mutterings?
Over dinner, Joseph explained to Kristin how he had come to be here at the hotel and confessed to having human-turned that held the shield.He asked them how we had gotten past it, and Zander spoke up.
“I was able to part it.”
“Part it?”Joseph asked curiously.“You mean like the seas?”
“Yes.”
“Interesting,” he replied and continued by telling her how it worked.He shared more information with her than I figured he would, and it made me wonder if he really did want to work with her and not destroy her after all.
Once dinner was finished, Kristin set her napkin on the table and rested her elbows beside her plate.“How about we stop with the pleasantries, and you release Hugh now.”

Portage put his hand up, and I felt someone approaching us.“Adam, release Hugh and bring him up to one of the suites.”
“You can bring him to mine,” I said quickly and noticed Corbin frown slightly.I didn’t have time for jealousy now.Hugh needed my help, and I was determined to do everything that I could for him.
“Very well.”
Before Adam left, he glared at Zander and then gave Kristin a disgusting once-over.She smiled sweetly at him and gave him a little finger wave like she was flirting with him.Gag.
I was out of my chair and following him when Portage called my name.“Angelina, you are not to follow him.Go up to your room and wait like a good girl.”
“Why, you afraid for me to see your torture chamber?”
He laughed.“No, I’m afraid you will kill Adam.”
He might have been right.Corbin had gotten up from the table and was following me out of the lounge.
“You don’t have to come.”
