"What will you tell them?" I asked.

"What do you want me to tell them?" he asked.

"That you have a girlfriend. A jealous girlfriend in Seattle."

"Is that y-you?" he asked.

"Of course, it's me."

"Are you my girlfriend now?"

She was looking straight at him when she shrugged. "Will you let me be?" she asked. She looked serious. It was like she thought there was actually a chance he'd deny her.

"Are you serious?" he asked.

"Yes," she said.

"Then, yes," he answered.

"So, you're my boyfriend?" she touched one side of his face as she kissed the other. "You're instantly number one," she said. She kissed his cheek again, two or three more times. "You're already my best, most favorite boyfriend I've ever had, Micah. I'm sorry for having any others. You're my best one by a mile."

"What… has… happened…" The question came out slowly, and Claire laughed at the stunned way Micah said it like it was a statement.

"I don't know, Micah. I really don't. I didn't see it coming. I loved you, I just didn't think of you as a… but I do now. I want to be yours. I wish you would let me do that."

"Let you be mine?" he asked.

She nodded.

His smile was barely there as he reached up to touch her face. She had a wispy ringlet of dirty blonde hair near her temple, and Micah touched it. His heart ached with love for her. For the first time in his life, he felt like he was ready for Claire Alexander. He had wanted her all this time, but he didn't deserve her. Now he could take her heart and protect it. He would protect her at all costs.

"You are my favorite person," she said. "I'm so happy you're doing good and enjoying the tour, but I can't wait for you to come back."

"I can't wait for that either," he said. He didn't want to leave her at all. He lifted his arm to push up his sleeve, and he took a look at his watch. He let out a reluctant sigh. "I have to go or I'll miss my flight."

"I know. I’m sorry. I'll miss you so much. Can you call me tonight, maybe? Later?"

He smiled. "Yes."

"I'm glad we had the chance to come out here and… talk."

He continued smiling as he shook his head at her. "I’m glad we talked, too," he said.

She kissed him but then stepped away afterward. "I need to let you go," she said. "Have fun, and I love you."

"I love you, too, Claire."

Claire began to walk off, but she let her hand remain in his for as long as possible. She held eye contact with him as she headed back toward the wedding. She was about to round the corner when she smiled and blew him a kiss.

Micah nudged his chin at her and smiled back, before turning to open his car door.

Micah lost two hours, so it was late when he made it to Austin.

His manager and assistant had been at the airport to pick him up, and they talked all the way back to the hotel. Micah would have a short interview at 1pm the following day and then the concert began at 7 with Micah going on at 8:30. He would need to be available for the interview, but then he would have several hours to relax before the show.

Aiden, his manager, was staying in the suite with him, and Micah didn't get a chance to call Claire until he went into his own bedroom and had some privacy. He took a quick shower and picked up his phone the instant he got out. It was 1am Texas time, which meant it was 11 in Washington.
