I shook my head. "No."

I saw his chest rise and fall as he took a deep breath. We were trying to be discreet, but everyone was distracted, so it didn't matter.

"It's okay that you can't say the same thing," I said to him. The girl Zoey crossed my mind when I said it, and I did my best to shake the image of her out of my thoughts.

"I can't," he agreed. "And I'm sorry. I had no idea you… but, Claire, I haven't since I met you."

"What?"

"I wish I could say the same thing you're saying. There are so many choices I made before I met you that I wish I could take back, but I can't."

"Yeah, but you haven't since you met me? What about Zoey and other girls on the road?"

"What? No. Not even close. I don't even get close to anyone."

"No one since you met me?" I asked.

He wrapped his arms around me. "No. And it's still not good enough. I had no idea you—"

"It is good enough," I said. "You're good enough just how you are, right this very second."

He stared into my eyes. "I do not deserve this gift, Claire."

I smiled and held his hands as I pushed away, swimming, playing around in the water. "Well, I don't feel like I deserve you, so, maybe we can just be even and both deserve each other."

My body was nowhere near his since I had kicked my legs out, but our fingers were still intertwined and I could've sworn he would have felt the ring by now. I could feel it touching his fingers. He used my hands to pull me through the water, closer to him.

Noise and action happened all around us, but nobody was talking to us directly, so we just went off into our own little world for a minute. Micah was amazing. He was everything I could ever want in a husband. I loosely wrapped my legs around him as I came near him again.

"Sorry if it took me a while to swim back over here," I said, pretending to be serious. "I might not be as fast swimming since I'm carrying a lot of extra weight around… on my… hand."

I was being serious-silly and saying the words in a way that Micah knew I was joking around, but I could tell he was perplexed by my statement. He tilted his head at me.

"What did you say?"

It took a lot of concentration for me to refrain from smiling. I had to stretch my face to get it to wipe off of there.

"I said I'm sorry if I'm swimming slow. I'm carrying a big, gigantic rock around on my hand. I'm surprised I didn't sink to the bottom when I jumped in with it."

"What are you talkin—uh, wait, did y-you, uh…" Micah stuttered as he stared at me seriously, and I could no longer hold back my smile.

I grinned and nodded answering his unasked question.

"Ye-what-yes-what? What are you saying 'yes' to?"

I smiled as I drew near and said, "The ring on your nightstand."

"Did you find… there was a note under it."

"I know."

I moved in the water, wrapping my legs more securely around him. "I read the note thoroughly."

"And you have it on?"

"Yes."

"Are you marrying me?" he asked, pulling back to stare at me.
