"Why am I just hearing about it? This is a huge deal."

"You just got here like five minutes ago. I haven't had a chance to tell you guys about it."

"Bye, Ari!" I heard Claire yell reluctantly in the distance."

"Bye!" I yelled even though I knew she couldn't hear me.

"So sorry about that," Isaac said.

It sounded like he was walking.

"It's fine," I said.

"No, I had to get out of there. She would've put you on the spot. I'm going outside for a minute."

"Where are you?"

"We're hanging out at my parents' house for a while. Ryan and I are going to a friend's house in a little bit to watch a game."

"A basketball game?"

"Yeah."

"Oh, I won't keep you. I just wanted to say hi, and…" I paused.

"And what?"

"And nothing. Just, hi."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah." I had been about to tell him that I broke up with Eddie, but I couldn’t do it. It was too eager sounding. "I was just going to ask how your day was," I said. I was not going to ask that, but I was interested to hear how his day went, and I waited for his answer.

"It was good. I worked until three, and then I went to the gym before coming over here. We're about to eat dinner."

"I need to let you go if it's a bad time."

"It's not," he said.

Chapter 10

Isaac Alexander

Isaac was at his parents' house when Ari called, and Claire had cut in on their conversation. He did not expect to hear back from her this soon. Last night when he talked to her, he could tell she was excited about reconnecting, but she was conflicted about the boyfriend thing, and rightly so.

Isaac wasn't normally the type to wish harm on any relationship, but in this case, he really hoped hers was over or would be over soon.

Isaac felt like God himself had brought Ari to him in the first place.Who else could have given him an exact dream?

He was desperate to know if she had broken up with her boyfriend. It was almost the first thing he asked. She tried to let him go when he told her that he was about to eat dinner with his family, but Isaac wasn't ready to get off of the phone.

"What about you?" he said. "How was your day?"

"Busy. I was busy up until a little while ago. That teacher's still out, and I had someone else call in because her daughter broke her arm. I had some scrambling to do, but we got it covered. I cleaned my house. I also cleaned the bathrooms at work earlier, which was supposed to be done by the night shift but wasn't. I had a… there was also… I had a lot going on today."

It sounded like she was about to say something else but was reluctant.

"What was there also? You said you also had something else."
