"Oh, no, I felt like I was rambling. It's that I'm doing a video in a couple of weeks, Thanksgiving weekend."

That was not what Isaac was hoping for. He expected her to say she broke up with her boyfriend

"What kind of the video?" he asked.

"A music video. Rap."

"Really?"

"Don't sound so excited," she said, hearing the caution in his tone.

"I'm sorry to say it like this, but isn't that where you're shaking your stuff?"

She laughed at his question. "If you're asking about how explicit it is. Danny doesn’t call me for any of the R-rated stuff."

"Is it PG-13?" Isaac asked.

"Y-yeah, I mean, I guess you could say that. I haven't heard the song to tell you anything about the lyrics, but it's basic hip-hop stuff."

"You say this like you've done a few of these."

"Quite a few, yeah," she said. "Atlanta's a hotbed for music."

"How many would you say?"

"I've been on all sorts of videos as a background dancer since I was a kid, but the kind of stuff that I'm doing with Danny, I have done about twenty or thirty times. I've never counted. Lately, it's been around two or three times a year. Sometimes it's just for a couple of hours."

"What do we have to do to get that down to PG?" he asked.

Ari laughed. "Nobody asks me to do anything explicit. It's all professional. It's not hardcore rap or anything."

"What about your husband?"

"What husband?" she asked.

"The future one. The guy you'll marry. Is he okay with it?"

She laughed again, and Isaac's chest ached. He wanted to be next to her. He imagined what she looked like.

"Is that guy you're with right now, is he okay with it?" Isaac asked. He was outside at his parents' house. It was a chilly November evening and Isaac got so hot that he unzipped his jacket as he waited for her to answer.

"I, uh," her voice was breathy. "He, uh, thinks, he… we were needing to step back. Things weren't. You know… with us. It wasn't… we aren’t… doing that anymore."

She was being coy, but Isaac could tell that she was trying to say something important.

"Did you break up with him?"

"Yes," she answered, her voice sounding tentative.

Isaac was ecstatic. His heart began to race and he stood in a wide stance and made a gesture with his fist in the air.

"Good," he said, his voice sounding calm and collected. "That's good."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. Yeah, definitely. There's my dad," he warned as his dad came around the corner.

"Oh, I didn't know you were on the phone," Samuel said. "Dinner's ready."
