"You think?" She was smiling and in a good mood, and Isaac could hear it in her voice.

"Ari Jane. I like it."

"I like your name, too," she said.

The sound of her voice was like music to his ears, and suddenly, the miles between them became extremely annoying to Isaac.

They were quiet for a few heartbeats.

"You need to go eat," Ari said.

"Yeah, I should, I am. I'm going. I'll call you back later, okay?"

"Okay. Isaac?"

"Yeah?"

"It doesn't matter what time. I have to work tomorrow, but not early."

"Okay great. I'll talk to you later tonight."

Isaac was still smiling as he came into the house.

"What was that all about?" his dad asked.

"That girl. The one from the book. She called."

"You're kidding," Samuel said, looking at his son. "I thought I heard Claire saying something about that."

Isaac nodded dazedly, "Yeah, that was her just now. I can't even believe it."

They were both standing in the laundry room where Isaac had entered, and Samuel leaned toward his son, inspecting him curiously. "I can actually see the veins in your neck, son. I can see your heart racing from the outside of your body."

Isaac turned and shifted, feeling like he wanted to punch something. "Uhh, I know. I feel like I want to put on tennis shoes and run to flipping Florida, Georgia, wherever she—all the way across the country. I feel like I want to physically run over there right now—just take off on foot."

"I think an airplane would be faster."

Isaac stretched as he shook his head. "I'm not going to do all that right now even though I want to. At this point, I can't even believe she called."

"I can't either," Samuel said, taking in his son's changed demeanor. "Did she read the book? I never see you like this over a woman."

"That's because this one is different. I mean think about it. The dream, the shirt, graduation, the book. The book."

"I know. How many relationships start like this?" Samuel said.

"I mean, don't you think I have no other choice other than to pursue it after all this? Don't you think I'd be an idiot not to?"

Samuel reached out and rubbed his son's shoulder. "I think you should do what you want to do. You're not stuck dating a girl just because of the book if that's what you're asking."

"No, no, I don't feel stuck. I guess I was just… it's unbelievable, the circumstances. Part of me wants to get a plane ticket to Georgia, and then I remember I've never seen the girl I talked to last night."

"Do you think it could be someone pretending?"

"No. I know it's not. I know she's the girl. It's just all so unbelievable." Isaac shook his head as he walked out of the laundry room and Samuel followed him.

"I want to hear more about this," Samuel said.

"Everyone else will, too. That's why I am going out here. I'll tell you guys at the same time. I'll wait for Ryan so I don't have to say it all again."
