Ari's eyes widened again. "You have barely touched me at all," she said stiffly.

"I know," he said as if it had been painful. "Look at us right now. We're here, we're standing, we've got a foot of space between us. My hands aren't even on you at all. It's terrible. I feel like we've been doing it the whole time."

"I know," she whispered. "You've had to be irritatingly hands-off when anyone is around this whole week. It's way harder here than it was in Atlanta."

"No kidding," he said. "It's extremely irritating."

He smiled and shook his head, and they shared a promising glance for several seconds.

"And I thought we hadn't slipped at all," Ari said.

"We didn't. Birdy said it's something about my hands. I have no idea what she saw. Something with how I touched you even though I thought I was really behaving." He shrugged. "Either way, she said our secret is safe with her. She thought it was sweet."

"It is sweet," Ari said. "And you're sweet."

"What's sweet is that I'm not breaking any rules when I sneak into your room later tonight."

Ari gasped and put a hand to her chest, pretending like she was horrified at the thought. "That would not be decent, Mister Alexander. It would be inconceivable of you to sneak into my room at twelve-thirty-on-the-dot this evening and have your way with me before we're married."

Isaac made an unimpressed face and shrugged casually, playing along with his wife. "I'm coming in there at twelve-thirty, and don't try to talk me out of it," he said with an easy smile.

The End
