"You. Stepping in, helping out. I was feeling bad for her. I would love to see if we can help her out up there."

I went to him. The music was bumping—and it was a song I recognized and loved, so I swayed as I moved in close to him.

"Thank you," I said, reaching up to touch him as I spoke.

"For mentioning that I know a guy in Milwaukee?"

"Yes. For thinking of others. Thank you for being like that. You ABC, Beau."

"What's that?"

"Always be carin'."

He laughed, and the sight of his smile and his teeth made me draw closer to him.

"I can assure you, I’m not thinking of others right now," he said, letting his honey-colored eyes roam down my face—to my mouth.

I bit my lip intentionally, flirting with him. "Who are you thinking about right now?" I asked.

The music and the lights were perfect. It was like that first night. Beau drove me wild. I went closer to him as I waited for his answer.

"Me," he said. "I'm feeling selfish."

"That's too bad, because I needed your help with something." I made a face like I was disappointed and held onto him gently. I let my hands run across the tight muscles of his midsection, flirting still.

He glanced at me casually. "What do you need my help with?"

I held onto him as I leaned up to speak. "I work here, and there was somebody bothering me. I was wondering if… I know we don't know each other, and I don't want to put you on the spot, but what are the chances you might pretend to be my boyfriend for a little while?"

"Just for tonight?" he asked, pulling me closer.

"Yes, of course, just for tonight. I definitely don’t want to ever run into you in Arkansas after this."

"Okay, I'm just making sure because I don't want a girlfriend."

"Yeah, good, because I'm just pretending."

Even as I said it, my fingertips ran across his skin in such a way that made it obvious I was telling a lie.

I turned in his arms, moving slowly to the music. "I love you," I said, being serious.

Beau grinned, kissed me, and told me that he loved me too.

The End
