“The shame of my mate’s affair with my own sister was too much, and I didn’t mention it to my siblings. I wish I had. We could have stopped Aaron and Mercy before now if I hadn’t let my anger fester so long.”

Lady Water remained quiet. The pain in my stomach began to lessen until I was either numb or the pain had stopped. My inner fire blazed nice and bright from the water’s warmth. When Life had stabbed me, I didn’t think I could feel this good again.

I sat up. Lady Water didn’t object but helped me from the pool.

Adam’s worry hit me hard. While I’d been in the water, something had blocked him from me.

Brynn! Brynn, can you hear me? Baby! Answer me, please!

Adam. His worry evaporated with just his name, and my mind quieted.

Baby, are you okay?

Yes. Your mom brought me to the Elemental home world. She’s going to bring me back to you soon. I’m healed. Her pool was amazing. My inner fire is strong again. He didn’t like his mom, and for good reason, but I couldn’t dislike her after she’d saved my life.

We’re cleaning up here. Cal’s not doing well. Maybe she could take him to her pool?Adam’s fear was leaking through our link even though he tried to hold it back and save me from the emotion.

Your mom knows. She’s going to give him her immortality. We’ll be right there.

Lady Water stared around the beautiful gardens of her pool. Her eyes were wet with tears. “I came here the night I learned Mercy was with Aaron. It is the only place I feel peace.”

“Carmon isn’t doing well.” I didn’t want to interrupt her voyage back in time, but if she ever did something for her sons, now would be the time to do it.

“Let’s go.” Water walked to me, and I stood, my clothes miraculously clean and dry. Only a rip over my stomach was evidence I’d been stabbed.

We were back in Drew’s house when our hands met. People were rushing around. The chaos wasn’t exactly organized, or if it was, I didn’t know the pattern.

Luka was holding a towel to Zhaine’s right shoulder. The material was soaked in blood, but the Demon was doing what he could to stop the bleeding.

Grace and Dalton were sitting by the front door with all the babies, Jazz, and Drew. Grace and Dalton both had bags of ice up to their faces. The healers were busy with the more pressing injuries like Zhaine’s.

Clara released my hand and hurried over to Carmon and Sylee so she could give him her immortality, or the energy from it. All of that conversation was confusing to my newly healed, newly Elemental brain.

Arms wrapped me in a tight hug before I recognized that Adam noticed me. The hug was so tight, I worried he’d squeeze my insides out. His muscled arms traveled up and down my body, making sure I was in one piece and really in his sight.

Everyone else disappeared from around me when Adam’s lips slammed onto mine with desperation. He’d never kissed me like this, and my legs went weak.

With a growl, Adam pulled back before either of us were ready. He didn’t allow me to move away but pulled me closer. If that were possible.

“I thought I’d lost you again. I’m not okay with that, Brynn.” He spoke into my hair, and I could feel a shiver run up his spine from the fear he’d felt. “I kept you away from this world to save you from this, and I failed.”

“Is it safe to go home?” There were so many people, and we were in the way. Neither of us could be of any use, and now that I was with Adam, my energy waned.

“Let’s go.” He turned and pulled me out the back door. If he told anyone where we were going, it was in their heads.

Marcus and the cute Lady Air lay on the back deck. I didn’t know where Leo was, and I didn’t want to ask. Life hadn’t been in the living room anymore. I’d noticed that. I didn’t want to know where she was either.

Adam stared at the bodies with me. “Life used a healing-resistant blade. Their injuries were too bad for anyone to try to heal. That’s why the healers all struggled with your wound as well.”

We left the porch and headed into the trees. It was time to go home.

Our cabin was dark, but the moment we walked in, Adam started a fire in the fireplace. The fire inside me kept me warm in the cool house. As Adam pulled me toward the stairs to our room, my fire grew hotter and Adam’s eyes began to glow.

“Let’s go to bed, Brynn. I need to hold you.”

Together we climbed the stairs. Adam lit the fire in our bedroom’s fireplace, and I basked in its warmth and the warmth of the man standing behind me, holding me tight.

After so many years, Adam and I could be together. We didn’t have to hide anymore. I couldn’t be happier.
