“Well?” Florence pressed.

Just as I opened my mouth, Sister Felicia tapped her baton on the music stand in front of her and the music came to a stop.

“If we’re interrupting you, Miss Walton, Miss Vanguard?” she said.

“No, Sister,” Florence said. “Sorry, Sister.”

“Good, because–”

At that moment, Brighton’s hand flew to his mouth and he ran from the room. It had been happening on and off all day. One kid had even thrown up all over the floor of the dining hall. The teachers and nuns had been doing their best to ignore it. As Sister Felicia did now. Almost.

“There are worse interruptions,” she said coldly. “Would it prove less distracting if you were to come to the front, Miss Vanguard?”

I ducked my head. “Yes, Sister,” I answered as I squeezed my way to the front, changing places with Exie.

So, it wasn’t until after Florence had finished in the Art Studio that we had a chance to talk. I knew how much she was looking forward to it, so I made sure to leave Apollo in time to be walking through the front doors to the girls dorm at the same time as her.

“You have so much to spill,” Florence told me as we headed up the stairs.

“I don’t think I have anything of interest,” I teased.

“You cannot leave me hanging. I live vicariously through you, Harlow.”

I laughed. “You do enoughlivingfor the both of us.”

“And, yet, I need to know what happened.”

“When?”

“Last week. Last night?”

“And what about you?” I accused.

“What about me?” she tried.

I scoffed. “You and Marco?”

As we dropped onto our beds, she waved her hand dismissively. “Me and Marco is far less interesting than you and Valen.”

“That’s a hundred times not true.”

“It so is. You’ve wanted him for years and now you finally get to do him. And you do, like all the time!”

“Well, I didn’t.”

She frowned. “You can’t lie to me. I know you did.”

“Not last night,” I amended.

Her frown deepened, but there was keen interest there. “What do you mean you didn’t last night? What did you do?”

I ran my tongue over my teeth, not sure why I was suddenly so hesitant to tell her. I didn’t want to hide it. I felt like it had more to do with me not wanting to know it meant something.

“He kissed me,” I said quickly.

She rolled her eyes as she rolled onto her stomach. “Uh huh. Boring.”

I shook my head. “No, I mean he kissed me.”
