She looked at me, one eyebrow raised in question. “He kissed you?” she asked, like she still couldn’t see what was so great about it.

I nodded.

“He kissed you...” Her eyes widened as she worked it out. “For the first time?”

I nodded again.

“You mean, he’s fucked you stupid but never kissed you before last night?”

Yet another nod.

“Huh,” she said, sitting back up again.

“Huh, what?” I asked.

She looked at me like she was thinking. “And you didn’t do anything else?”

“He...got me off. It was...”

“Different?” she guessed.

“Yeah.”

“How was he this morning?”

I shrugged. “Hungover like the rest of us.”

He’d been in a mood, more sour than usual, as if that was possible. He’d done nothing but grunt and snap at Apollo. Just before we’d got into the car, Apollo finally realised he’d taken it too far when Valen took a swing at him. Lucky for Apollo, Valen had also pulled his fist up short so as not to actually make contact. As far as I knew, Apollo and Valen hadn’t spoken since. They’d been together all day, just not spoken.

She nodded. “He was putting them away last night.”

“When did you see him last night? I thought you were too busy sucking face with Marco?”

She grinned. “I’m a woman. I multi-task.”

“I’m a woman and I don’t multi-task,” I muttered.

“I seem to recall his intake got rapidly faster the lower Apollo’s hand got on your arse.”

I snorted. “What?”

She nodded, adamant. “Yep.”

I shook my head. “No. No. Because that would imply that Valen cared, and he doesn’t.”

“Doesn’t he?”

“He did knock out Arnie...” I mused. “But that was for Apollo.”

“Was it, though?”

“Of course it was.”

Florence shrugged. “It’s new ground. You’re fucking Valen–”

“Past tense.”

She looked at me like she knew I was full of shit. “And Apollo’s getting snugglier.”
