A growl rumbled out of the tall, lanky blonde, and Sabine reacted by dropping to the floor.

Kara cried out in surprise. She ran around the island to Sabine’s side.

“Oh my God, are you okay? What happened?” Kara dropped to her knees, eyes wide and concerned.

Sabine blinked at her. “It’s a hoedown, right? Am I doing it wrong? I’m doing it wrong, aren’t I?”

Kara snorted and giggled and collapsed on top of Sabine, laughing into her shoulder.

“Okay, help me up. I have to check the potatoes.”

They returned to standing and Kara refilled their wine glasses.

“How about your day? Anything cool happen to you?” Kara asked.

Sabine hummed as she thought about Sunshine Capone’s dark blue eyes and the rose tattoo on his face that crinkled when he smiled.

“You know, the usual. Proteges, snarky teenagers, I was rescued from being strangled to death by my own sweater by a rock star.”

Kara chuckled. “We have the weirdest life.”

“But at least we have each other.”

“Forever and ever, babe.”

CHAPTERTWO

ROLLING THROUGH

DAVE

It had been a little over a year since Dave “Sunshine Capone” Hansen had walked into Johnny Enamorado Torres’ recording studio, XY Records, and had fallen absolutely, head over heels, in love.

With espresso.

Specifically, the espresso he could make in the upstairs lounge of the studio.

He’d always enjoyed coffee and caffeine and all the perks that came with it. But he’d never had espresso until the wildest week of his life.

It became a personal quest for him to recreate what he’d discovered. But after months of going into coffee houses, buying different brands of espresso machines, trying every grind and roast he could find, he hadn’t been able to do so.

“You mind if I go mess with your espresso machine?” Dave asked.

“That’s what it’s there for,” Johnny replied without looking up.

“I’ll come with you.” Shawn stood and followed him out of the control room. “So how did your first night go in your new place?”

Dave shrugged with a laugh. “I prioritize the wrong things. I got really into setting up my stereo and completely spaced on making sure I had somewhere to sleep. I woke up on the floor among a bunch of cords.”

He followed Shawn through the door to the lounge and just like the day before, there was someone he didn’t know.

The same unknown person as yesterday.

Except this time, she wasn’t struggling in her own shirt and blindly bumping into furniture.

Which reminded him that he had never gotten her name. Which had been deliberate.

Because he was done with women for a while.
