“Are you done?” he asked.

“Mm-hm. I was just getting ready to go home and get ready.”

He pursed his lips and sucked in a breath. “What if…?”

“What if what?” she asked, eyeing him suspiciously.

“How much do you trust me?”

* * *

And that’s how she found herself walking into a building she had never been in before.

She didn’t spot the name on the outside. Dave was walking too fast for her to get her bearings.

To be clear, he wasn’t hurrying. His legs were such a length that walking with purpose for him translated to jogging for her.

And he was holding her hand, so there was that.

Honestly it was the hand holding that was the most distracting.

She liked it a lot and was trying to come up with ways to get him to hold her hand more often.

They went through a neat lobby with a reception which they bypassed, into an elevator.

“Where are we going?’ she asked him in the elevator.

He smiled down at her and put a finger to his lips like it was a secret.

Hello, butterflies.

When the elevator door opened, they were greeted by Dallas.

And by greeted, she meant Dallas was there and motioned for them to follow her.

They were led to a conference room and left alone.

“What’s going on?” she asked, still not sure where they were.

“Do you want an espresso?” he asked, going straight for the machine.

“Yes.” She crossed her arms over her chest. “Are you going to answer my question?”

“No.”

She snorted and turned around in time to see two men join them.

“Ms. Debois,” the taller one greeted her. He held out a hand for her to shake and introduced himself as Quinn Sullivan and the other man as Alex Greene. Apparently, they were part of Dave’s security team.

That explained why Dallas was there.

It didn’t explain why Sabine was there though.

They all sat down at the table.

Quinn and Alex on one side, Sabine and Dave facing them.

Dave sat a cup of espresso in front of her.
