Usually, he’d ignore her obvious discomfort and just get his work done. It wasn’t his business that she preferred to be as inconspicuous as possible even in a working office environment. He’d shrugged it off and tried not think about it again.

And the smile on her face, bright, coy, and so joyous, it changed everything he ever thought of mousy Maeve Thomas.

“What are you staring at with that look on your face?” Sly asked, pushing up beside him to follow his line of sight. “Maeve?” AJ couldn’t mistake the sound of surprise in Sly’s voice.
Of course, it’s a surprise. The man had known Maeve for months longer than AJ, having worked for White in Miami before coming to Jackson Key, and AJ had never shown even an inkling of interest in the woman.
Interest? There’s no interest. She’s an employee…and perhaps a friend. That’s all.He was worried about her, that was all. Unlike Sally, who thrived on male attention, Maeve was out of her element. Right?
She doesn’t look like it,his inner voice growled.

“I’m just surprised to see her like that,” AJ answered honestly, though there was far more to it than that. He was knocked off kilter. His head spinning. His world tipping. His notions about one woman exploding in the water. “She’s going to get herself in trouble.”
