“We’re going to get her, AJ. Maeve will be safe. The question is, what are you going to do once this is all over?”

Good question.

Opening his eyes, he met Blaze’s worried gaze, then Sly’s resolute one. Both men had come when he called. Relief blossomed inside him, as the burdened he’d carried was lifted by two others.

It was time to get his woman—and put Denise down.

“Right. So, this Samson, he can make sure that Denise is locked down, that she can’t follow through with her threats?”

Smirking darkly, Sly nodded. “Without a doubt. I’ll text him now.” Silence filled the condo as Sly’s thumbs flew over his phone screen. “Once Denise is locked down and can’t do her cyber voodoo, we’re going to need to gather the information and get the FBI involved. With the kind of threats she made, this is federal. We’ll need local PD help at first, though. That new detective, Oliveira, seems keen on doing his job right.”

How Sly knew so much about a local police detective, AJ didn’t know—and probably didn’t want to.

Blaze huffed. “What should I do? I can’t just sit around waiting for someone else to save my woman.”

AJ chuckled, slapping Blaze on the back. “You’re going to help me catch my Swan.”

A joyful whoop sounded and Blaze and AJ turned to a brilliantly grinning Sly.

“Samson is in. Let’s do this!”

His heart in his throat, it beating a mile a minute, AJ gripped his cell with both hands. Taking a deep breath, he peered down at the screen and typed out a one sentence message.

AJ: Baby, it’d love to see you this weekend.

The words like nails on a chalkboard, making his jaw hurt from grinding his teeth. Denise wasn’t his baby, she was his bane. His enemy, and soon, she’d be history. Forgotten. Left to die in a cell as dank and rotten as her.

It didn’t take long for the viperous bitch to respond.

Denise: I’m on my way.

Dark fire scorched through him, lighting every last sliver of righteous tinder ablaze. The smile on his face wide, vicious, and malevolent.

“Hey Sly?” AJ called.

Sly arched an eyebrow. “Yeah?”

“Feel like buying out a bar for a night?”
