"You’re aware?" My head rears back in disbelief.

George dips his chin once. "Your father has quite the reputation of his own, and despite my focus being on Nate, I’ve watched him closely from the moment they were both in the same room. He was suspecting something."

This is all kinds of fucked up. "But you didn’t know what?"

"There is not much it could have been. Nate is well known, and your father can easily pull up his past. Nate's...breakdown was well documented by the press. The timeline between his discharge and Lilly's disappearance, in combination with his parents' tragedy...your father is a smart man. Especially after we informed him about the video." He says it all with such a lack of emotion, I grind my teeth.

"And you’re not worried he’ll call the authorities?"

"No. Tristen is fully aware that Nate is Lilly’s best chance. Plus, he’s not putting all his cards on the table."

My eyebrows pull together. "What do you mean?"

"There is something he’s keeping from us."

My jaw is starting to cramp, listening to his monotone report.

"Is this, like, a thing you do?"

He just cocks his head.

"Both of you act like this is one of your secret spy missions." My voice rises. "This is Lilly’s LIFE!" I shout the last word at him.

"That’s exactly why we are doing what we’re doing. Lilly is our number one priority. If your father had the facts that would help bring her back, he would share them."

After my littlechat with my BFF, I go back upstairs. I want to pound on Dad’s door, demanding answers, but him spilling his secrets is about as likely as getting him to wear the blowup unicorn costume. I watch the blinking dots on the alarm clock until my eyes start to droop around five in the morning.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

What the—?

"Dude! Get your ass downstairs!"

Wes’s voice jolts me upright.

What time is it? One of the worst head rushes I’ve ever experienced makes me squeeze my eyes shut. Slowly blinking them open again, I glance to the bedside table—2:34 p.m.

Holy fuck, I passed out for over nine hours.

I jump up and pull the door open. My best friend is standing with his hands in his pockets in the hallway. His blond hair is a mess, and he hasn't shaved since we got here. He stares at me with a grim expression.

"What?" I know this guy better than myself half the time. "Spit it out."

His eyes harden. "Nate’s got something."

I tear past him without waiting for more information.

Voices lead me to the office, and I find Nate, George, and my father behind the desk, with Den in front of it. She's chewing on her thumb, a gesture I have never seen on the always-confident Denielle Keller. Wes moves past me into the room and takes his spot next to Lilly's best friend.

All eyes are on me, and Nate breaks the silence. "I found her."
