Joe fist-pumped the air quickly. He was already over the moon and he wasn’t engaged yet. Then he became all serious at once. He offered a handshake to Sam.

Sam splatted his hand away and instead, pulled him in for a friendly brother’s hug. “As I’m sure my daughter will agree to marry you, let me be the first to say it. Congratulations, my friend.”

Joe sniffed back a tear. “Thank you, brother.”

Then Joe jogged away, straight towards Stella. He took her hand in his and announced to everyone he’d like their attention.

“Oh, he’s doing it right now.” Sam commented, visibly impressed.

“Not so mousey now, is he?” I continued, as surprised as Sam was.

We watched Joe go down on one knee and heard Stella’s shriek of glee. Oh, what a beautiful moment to witness. My best friend was getting married.

“I’m hearing thunder in my sky.” Sam growled beside me as he wrapped an arm around my waist.

“Oh, come on. You know Joe’s good to her.”

“Will anyone ever be good enough for my girl?”

I turned around in his arm and looked up into his eyes.“Funny, Joe once said that to me about you.”

“Damn him.”

“Well, he was wrong. You’re so much more than enough for me. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.’

I set my hand over his chest. His hand settled on my chest.

Thump-thump… Thump-thump…

This was the man who showed me where my heart was, filled it with such immense joy and made my heart race with one look of his piercing blue-grey eyes. This was the man who kept me alive with just his existence.

“I love you, Mr Webb.”

“I love you, Mrs Webb.”

And then I kissed him… again… and again…

The End.
