“I know enough. I know all I need to.”

“You know nothing, Zoey,” I snarl.

She giggles in response.

“What’s so funny?” I bark out, feeling the effect of the alcohol on an empty stomach seep through my veins.

“Nothing. You just sounded like you were an extra onGame of Thronesfor a second there.” She chuckles as she hops up on the counter and swings her legs back and forth.

“What’s that?”

“You don’t know whatGame of Thronesis?” she replies, shocked.

“Should I?”

“It was only one of the best TV shows in history a few years back until they fucked up the ending,” she exclaims, holding her hand to her heart like she’s genuinely concerned.

“I must have missed it when I was keeping this country safe from terrorists,” I snarl.

“Right.” She kicks the air at her feet. “Dad told me you had been deployed in Afghanistan before you took a job with the agency.”

“Amongst other places. Never thought I’d ever say this, but your father talks too much.”

Zoey laughs. “Alaric is the last person I’d ever think someone would call a gossip. And besides, he didn’t tell me you were in the Army; he told my sister. I just couldn’t help but eavesdrop when he did.”

“Wrong place, wrong time, huh?”

“More like right place, right time.” She beams, breaking through my barriers with her light.

“What the fuck am I going to do with you?” I shake my head.

“Whatever you like,” she teases. “I think I’ve made that obvious to you by now.”

“Too obvious,” I growl, stepping up next to her and placing my hands on her slender hips. “Your father would put a bullet through my brain if he knew you were here, but he’d torture the fuck out of me if he knew I was actually considering putting you in harm’s way. Here lies the rub, little doe. I’d fucking let him. If anything happens to you, I’ll never forgive myself.”

Zoey places her palms on my chest and bats those gorgeous emerald eyes at me.

“But you won’t let anything bad happen to me, so that’s a moot point. Trust me. I’ve got this.”

I think long and hard on her proposal to be my eyes on the inside. It would make things a whole lot easier having an inside man or, in her case, an inside brat.

“Do you always get your way?” I ask once I’ve made up my mind.

“Always.” She giggles.

“Fuck my life,” I mumble before pulling away from our embrace to pick up my phone. “Step back for me, little doe. I need to take a picture of you.”

“Is it for your spank bank or just something to remember me by?”

“Enough of that. If you want to be in the game, you need to be thinking with your head and not your…”

“Hooha?” she finishes, pointing to her greedy cunt to bring the point home. All it takes is another growl to have her laughing her head off. “Okay, I get it. I get it. No more playing around. But only if you promise me one thing.”

“What’s that?” I mumble.

“That one night you’ll ask me over here so we can just Netflix and chill.”

“I have no idea what that means,” I reply, feeling confused.
